Astronomers monitor an object that goes to Earth and that could have wandered from another star system.
Scientists have discovered what could only be the third known interstellar object that happens through our solar system, the European Space Agency (THAT).
The harmless object is currently close to Jupiter hundreds of millions away and moves to Marsbut should not get closer to the sun than that, according to scientists.
It is too early to know if the object, designated for now as a11PL3Z, is a rock asteroid or an icy kite, or how large and how it is. More observations are needed to confirm their origins. The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) said it monitors the situation.
The astrophysic Josep Trigo Rodríguezof the Institute of Space Sciences nearly Barcelona, SpainHe believes that it is an interstellar object based on its strange path and the extreme speed that cuts through the solar system. The scientist estimated its size in approximately 25 miles in diameter.
The first confirmed interstellar visitor entered our Solar System in 2017. He was baptized as Oumuamua, Hawaiian for “Explorer”, in honor of the Hawaii Observatory that discovered it. Classified at first as an asteroid, the elongated Oumuamua has since showed signs of being a kite.
The second confirmed object that has been lost from another star system to ours is 2i/Borisov, discovered in 2019. The scientific community also believes that it is a kite.
