AEMET puts these areas on alert for storms, hail and possible flooding

A powerful DANA The instability will continue this weekend, with more rain and storms. The precipitation could be heavy in several areas of Spain. Rainfall up to 80 l/m2

AEMET predicts that the presence of a DANA in the northwest of the peninsulawhich could evolve into a cold storm Throughout the weekend, instability will continue in the north and northeast on Friday, with abundant cloudiness and precipitation, affecting the northeast and the eastern Cantabrian region from the early hours. As the day progresses, the rain will concentrate in the Pyrenees and Catalonia, while storms will occur. Likewise, it is likely that the rainfall will be intense and persistent in Navarre and northern Aragon, and also in the Pyrenees of Lleida and the east of the Basque Country. In Catalonia, these storms could become very strong in the afternoon and evening.especially on the coast. In the northwestern third of the peninsula, rain is expected occasionally accompanied by storms, with a tendency to intensify throughout the day, especially in western Galicia and parts of Asturias. In the Canary Islands, cloudy skies are expected with possible isolated showers on the islands with higher relief, while in the rest of the country clear skies will predominate. In addition, there could be haze in the Balearic Islands and Melilla.

Flood alert in the Ebro basin

The Ebro Hydrographic Confederation (CHE) has warned that the DANA will cause flooding in the rivers of the Ebro basin due to the associated stormy phenomena, more so in the upper part of the basin and on the left bank. It is not ruled out that they may reach extraordinary levels (with the capacity to cause damage) in some rivers on the left bank of the Ebro. They will be more likely in basins such as the Ega, Arga, Irati, Arbas, Aragón, Gállego, Ara, Cinca or Éseraalthough they could also affect the rest of the sub-basins. In addition to possible floods in these main channels, the ravines and smaller channels on the left bank will be monitored due to the high intensity that rainfall can reach locally. Sudden local floods of an extraordinary nature are also not ruled out in the small channels.

Temperatures are falling

Maximum temperatures will rise in the Balearic Islands and the Mediterranean and Cantabrian slopes, especially in the northeastern interior, while they will fall in the rest of the country. Among the cities with the highest temperatures will be Granada with 34ºC, Córdoba and Murcia with 33ºC, and Seville and Jaén with 32ºC.

Showers accompanied by mud in these areas

On Saturday, a subtropical air mass is expected to arrive in southern Spain, bringing with it humidity and suspended dust. This will cause showers accompanied by mud and occasional storms during the weekend in Andalusia, Levante and the Balearic Islands, with the possibility of very strong convective wind gusts. Temperatures will continue to rise in the Mediterranean area and Galicia, while on Sunday they will rise in the western half of the peninsula and fall in the Mediterranean area.

What will the weather be like next week?

Between Monday and Thursday of next week, there is a chance of rainfall in northern Galicia and the Cantabrian Sea, as well as showers, some with thunderstorms, in eastern Catalonia and northern Balearic Islands.
