Spain faces a typically autumnal week. The heat of mid-October says goodbye and A train of Atlantic storms arrives that will leave rain, wind and mild temperatures for much of the week. The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) predicts the arrival of a “squall train” that will cross the peninsula from the southwest, leaving widespread rain, a marked increase in cloudiness and a temperate environment due to the open, humid and soft winds that will blow from the Atlantic.
This Monday the day will begin with a truce in the north of the peninsula. Stability will gain ground in Galicia, Castilla y León and the western Cantabrian Sea, with slightly cloudy skies after a morning of fog and low clouds.
On the other hand, the south will continue under an unstable pattern: very cloudy or overcast skies are expected, with locally strong showers and storms in the southwest, especially around Huelva, Badajoz and Cádiz where rains are expected exceed 15 liters per square meter. For this reason, the AEMET has activated yellow notices. Also in Almería and Murcia, rainfall is expected to exceed the minimum threshold of 25 liters per square meter. In the rest, the rains will be weaker and more dispersed, tending to subside at the end of the day.
Temperatures will experience slight contrasts: they will drop on the southern Andalusian coast and in the northeast of the peninsula, but they will rise in much of the interior and the northern half. In northern mountain areas, even light frosts are expected. The winds will blow lightly in general, although the gale will be felt strongly in the lower Ebro and Ampurdán, and there will be a moderate easterly wind in the Mediterranean.
A train of storms that arrives on Tuesday
Starting on Tuesday the 28th, an Atlantic low will approach the southwest of the peninsula, beginning a new episode of widespread rains. Precipitation will begin in the west (especially in Extremadura and western Andalusia) and will spread towards the center of the peninsula throughout the day. In these areas they may be persistent and locally strong, with occasional storms and significant accumulations.
Temperatures will remain mild thanks to the predominance of winds from the south and southwest. The maximums will rise in the northern interior, the plateau and the Cantabrian Sea, while they will decrease slightly in the southwest and the Levante coasts. It will be a typically autumnal environment: humid, temperate and with overcast skies for much of the day.
On Wednesday the change in pattern will be consolidated. The low pressures will deepen over the southwest of the peninsula, leaving overcast skies and widespread rain in much of the country. They will be especially intense in Castilla-La Mancha, the interior of Andalusia, the center of the peninsula and the northeast, where strong storms and significant accumulations are not ruled out.
Maximum temperatures will drop in the west and south, while minimum temperatures will tend to rise, with a mild environment even at night. In the Canary Islands, instability will also increase, with abundant cloudiness and occasionally moderate rainfall.
