The former advisor of Moncloa Luis María Carrero perceived a payroll close to 3,500 euros in the years he served in the Ministry of the Presidency. In this way, Carrero, who will sit in the dock for the investigation that has been carried out against the brother of the President of the Government, tries to demonstrate that he was not plugged by the musician in the Badajoz Provincial Council.
To this end, the official provided, along with his defense brief, a series of annexes, to which LA RAZÓN has had access, and which show the salary he received in his last assignments. During the three years that he was in Moncloa (between March 2, 2020 and December 31, 2023), he received 3,479 euros per month. His payroll shows that he was a special services official and that his job within the Message Unit of the Department of Political Affairswas as an advisory member.
As Carrero explained in his interrogation before Judge Beatriz Biedma, his work in Moncloa consisted of write the speeches of the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez. However, he denied that he knew him. In addition, he also provided a list of the remuneration he received after being appointed Head of the Coordination Section of Centers and Programs of Cross-border Activities in the Provincial Council of Badajoz.
“What benefit does Don Luis get from the change?”
According to it, his salary in the position from which he resigned last July was 2,580 euros. “What economic benefit does Don Luis obtain from the change? It is evident that he earned much more in his job in Moncloa, and that he currently earns practically the same in the EOI Extremadura as what he earned before in the Provincial Council of Badajoz. What other benefits do you get? It has not been explained to us,” Carrero reasoned.
The former Moncloa advisor is trying to put together his defense ahead of the trial that the Badajoz Provincial Court will host against David Sánchez and a dozen people investigated for alleged influence peddling and prevarication with the awarding of the position of coordinator of all the Badajoz conservatories due to the suspicion that it was manufactured for him.
Although Carrero was not part of the proceedings, the head of the Investigative Court number 3 of Badajoz ended up charging him after suspecting that David Sánchez maneuvered to plug him in in the Provincial Council then chaired by Miguel Ángel Gallardo. The judge reached this conclusion after analyzing the emails seized from the plot.
The links between Carrero and his “little brother”
In many of them you can see how Carrero, while he was assigned to the Ministry of the Presidency, made personal arrangements for David Sánchez, brother of the person to whom he then reported. So much so that the judge ordered the Central Operational Unit (UCO) of the Civil Guard to collect information from Moncloa from his job in order to investigate “the previous relationships” between David Sánchez and this official. Specifically, information was requested on the start and end dates of the contracts and the termination of the employment relationship.
In many of these communications Carrero He referred to David Sánchez as “little brother”; appellation that in his interrogation before the judge he justified for the sake of the friendship that united him with the musician. “Because of his friendship with Don David, he decided to help him in some of the projects that he transmitted to him and commented on, given his greater ease in completing the texts correctly. In this way, his collaboration was limited to making some notes, but they were informal and non-binding for David,” he stated in his defense brief.
However, the instructor of the case – and the popular accusations that have been litigated under the umbrella of Clean Hands– They consider that Sánchez mediated to plug Carrero into the Provincial Council. They are based, on the one hand, on the messages exchanged between the accused regarding the creation of the square and, on the other, in the email that David Sánchez sent him days before going out to competition.
The judge’s suspicions
“As soon as you join I want to spend at least a week here to serve as support,” the musician told him and he replied: “I have no news or calendar about the incorporation, the last thing (Manuel) Candalijas told me was during November.”
The judge warned that said month coincided with the date of publication of the contest rules and Carrero’s presentation. In his indictment he highlighted in this regard that the request for “immediate” coverage of the position on secondment took place on October 16, 2023 and, just a month later, on November 22, the bases for its coverage were approved. to the position only David Sánchez’s friend showed upfor which he was officially designated and named on December 26 of that year.
