COMU Action Pro: we tested the AI recorder that offers us several readings

There are devices that are created to solve a problem and others that try to change the way we work. The COMU Action Pr belongs to the second category. At first glance it looks like a small electronic card that can be attached to the back of the phone. But its purpose goes far beyond recording a conversation: it aims to listen to it, transcribe it, identify its main ideas and turn them into something we can use. A meeting could end with a summary, an interview with your essential points, and a work conversation with a draft email or a to-do list. This recorder wants to stop being a simple word store and become a kind of digital secretary.

The first success is in the format. With dimensions of 91 × 60 millimeters, a thickness of between 5.5 and 7.5 millimeters and 52 grams of weight, the Action Pro has a rectangular design with rounded edges and a metallic finish. Can be magnetically attached to the back of a MagSafe compatible phone using the included ringalthough it can also be used independently. It does not need to occupy the phone screen nor does it force us to open an application every time we want to register an idea.

On its small 0.95-inch AMOLED screen you can check the recording status, its duration and the remaining battery. Two physical buttons complete the set: one to start or stop the capture and another dedicated to artificial intelligence functions. It is a simple solution, but important. When recording an interview or meeting, knowing that your device is working without having to constantly check your phone prevents unnecessary distraction.

The real difference is in the capture system. COMU incorporates six microphones with adaptive operation, noise reduction through artificial intelligence and voice recognition. The idea is that you can distinguish the interventions of the participants even when the conversation takes place in a crowded room, a cafe or a technology fair. It has a range of up to seven meters and an autonomy of 70 hours of continuous recording, thanks to a 1,000 mAh battery. It also has 16 GB of storage and charging via USB-C.

In the tests carried out so far I discovered that It doesn’t record conversations in a way that makes them playable on radio or with quality audio, but I also realized that that’s not its goal. The Comu Action Pro prioritizes processing over quality. It’s not about getting a studio-quality recording to edit a podcast, but about providing artificial intelligence with a clean enough signal to recognize what’s being said.

And that’s where the work of the software begins. The Action Pro can transcribe conversations in 113 languages, generate summaries and allow later consultations on the content of the recordings. Instead of scrolling through pages of transcripts to find a decision or figure, we can ask about a specific issue and retrieve the information. Its AI button adds another possibility: convert conversations into documents, emails, presentations or action lists. All this through its own app.

This last function is what gives meaning to his last name, Action. The intention is not that we end a meeting with a text file, but with some of the subsequent work already prepared. Or at least that is the original idea, but after several uses in different scenarios, the reality is that it works better as it learns from our needs… just like any AI. And, like all of them, It is not always perfectly accurate and I recommend reviewing the generated content before considering it reliable. Common mistakes? Confusion of names in voices or somewhat particular translations, although in the context they are understood.

Its pricing policy introduces another interesting element. Transcription in real time and Basic summaries are unlimited and free, an advantage over devices that restrict the number of minutes included in their initial plans. But that doesn’t mean the entire experience is fee-free. Unlimited translations, advanced analytics, and workflows that generate presentations, emails, and documents depend on payment plans and monthly credits. The starting price is €179.

The issue of privacy also deserves attention. A recorder that records work conversations, interviews or meetings can store sensitive information. COMU declares to comply with SOC II, GDPR and HIPAA standards. The personal verdict is that it is much more than an AI recorder: it saves time (a lot), it can handle basic tasks and simple translations, but, as with any AI, the human element is essential. And that’s good.
