After four hours of explanations before the Permanent Deputation and receiving requests for resignation from the majority of parliamentary groups, with the exception of EH Bildu, Óscar Puente presented his resignation as Minister of Transport and Sustainable Mobility of Spain. A decision that comes just over a week after the tragic train accident in Urda, which claimed 69 victims.
A decision that has provoked a multitude of responses, among them, those of the former president of Cantabria, Miguel Ángel Revilla. The general secretary of the Regionalist Party of Cantabria used his official Facebook profile to express his approval of the resignation of the former Minister of Transport. An act that has been described as “coherent”, after “the serious accidents that the railway network has suffered in the last year”.
Referring to the first accident that occurred in the current year, which took place on the route between Malaga and Madrid on January 18, 2026. With the sum of the two misfortunes suffered in these last nine months, Spain adds 115 deaths. These figures make our country the deadliest in the world, accounting for nearly 70% of deaths in railway accidents.
The general secretary of the PRC will speak about this issue in ‘El Hormiguero’
A problem that, without a doubt, will come up in the interview in ‘El Hormiguero’ to which the Cantabrian politician will attend tonight. Revilla has already become a regular guest on Pablo Motos’ program, with whom he takes the opportunity to analyze the different most relevant issues on the national political scene. A visit that also coincides with the proximity of the general elections on November 29.
Another of the most relevant issues, and why the electoral advance has occurred, is the housing problem. Something about which the general secretary of the PRC has also expressed his discontent in several of his interventions. The most talked about was the one produced in the program ‘Malas Lenguas’, presented by Jesús Cintora, after the media eviction of the recently deceased Maricarmen, which caused numerous demonstrations in the main cities of Spain.
According to what he stated in the RTVE program, politicians had the obligation to apologize for what happened, because “they did not know how to foresee that Situations like these cannot be subject to the will of companies “The only thing they want is to make money.” A statement that made reference to the evictions that have occurred due to the purchase of real estate by so-called vulture funds.
Revilla requested an increase in the supply of officially protected housing
To define the problem, the former president of Cantabria assured that It was about “maximum vulture, unbridled capitalism” and criticized those who put at risk what he called one of the main needs of human beings. An issue that should be protected by the politicians themselves, as he explained. And, to do this, the Government should have invested part of its budgets in the construction of social housing.
“In Spain, I presented a plan at the time; you could build homes, as many as you want, officially protectedsimply at the cost of construction,” said Miguel Ángel Revilla, “of course, at the expense of the State, with the land available.” An issue that, as the politician explained, could be solved with greater investment by the Government.
“But if Spain’s first problem is housing, let’s build thousands and thousands of homes,” said the former Cantabrian president. A solution to a problem that, along with railway insecurity, has become the biggest concern of Spaniards and of those will speak in greater depth tonight in ‘El Hormiguero’. As well as the proximity of the general elections that will take place on November 29.
