The other businesses in the Plus Ultra plot: nickel, gold and oil

The Economic and Fiscal Crime Unit (UDEF) of the National Police has confirmed that the plot, allegedly led by the former president of the Government José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, was not limited to intervening in the rescue of Plus Ultra. New reports from investigators incorporated into the judicial summary show that the network would be linked to businesses in gold and nickel mines and the sale and purchase of oil.

Specifically, according to the intercepted conversations, the Venezuelan brothers Amaro Chacón informed the close friend of the former socialist leader, “Julito” Martínez about projects such as those of the “Egipcio” – Minerven project -, the plans of “those of the desert” and the Western Atlas Resources project.

On the one hand, Minerven is the leading company in the extraction, production and marketing of minerals in Venezuela; The second referenced project refers to the officialization of the diplomatic relationship with the opening of the UAE embassy in Venezuela and the “marketing of yellow” – in alleged reference to gold -; and, finally, the third project refers to the fact that Western has various mining operations in Venezuela, especially nickel.

The messages also expose another business plan called “Tortuga” on the Venezuelan island with that same name to turn the area into a julo destination with hotels and golf courses.

The investigators also assure that the link between the Amaro Chacón brothers and the environment close to the former socialist leader extends, at least, until 2024, regarding “operations such as an export of gold, the sale of QWANT shares, the subsequent transformation of euros into other currencies in cash in Caracas or the implementation of a route for the “delivery of physical product”, for an amount of several million.

All of this, according to the agents, through front companies such as, for example, Prospective Intelligence, the company that made payments to the company of the daughters of the former president of the Government.
