Juan Carlos Monedero returns to teaching classes at Complutense University. The return to teaching of the founder of Podemos has generated discomfort and surprise to the university community that is suspicious of his figure and criticizes that his reappearance occurs while a complaint for sexual harassment filed by a student is still open.
Monedero has been teaching the subject of Comparative Politics. This subject is one of the main subjects of the second year of International Relations. Everything depends on the Department of Political Science and the Administration.
The silent return of the founder of Podemos has generated unrest and fear among students and teachers. A circumstance that occurs while the file of confidential nature for the complaint of sexual harassment of a young woman. The Complutense avoids talking about deadlines to resolve this issue.
The news of Monedero’s reappearance has raised blisters among university students who “do not understand the decision” of his return. There is “overwhelm” and “anger” in equal parts as many fear that they may return to past circumstances.
An example of this is Eduardo, a Political Science student, who assures that the community does not like a person with this history returning to class. “People don’t feel safe with a teacher like that, especially the girls“. The young man reports that in classes “he became aggressive, especially when the topic of Venezuela was discussed. He was capable of humiliating a student who thought differently and it even happened, on one occasion, that he kicked out a student who refuted his opinions,” he adds.
Of course, for now, Monedero’s role has gone completely unnoticed without any risqué among his students. Several teachers consulted by LA RAZÓN criticize this return “without punishment” which does not leave the rest of my fellow teachers in a good place.
The complaint for sexual harassment against the founder of Podemos was filed on January 10 of this year and in recent months it has gone through several procedures. The Complutense referred the case to the Prosecutor’s Office in case the facts constituted a crime. Last June the Public Ministry archived the procedure.
The writing of the Monedero complainant
This decision caused the plaintiff to send a letter to the university where she demanded that the disciplinary proceedings against the former founder of Podemos be reactivated, according to a letter advanced by LA RAZÓN. In the document, the claim was set out in the Equality Unit under the UCM Anti-Harassment Protocol for the behaviors and comments of Professor Juan Carlos Monedero in the classroom.
This complaint was transferred to the Services Inspection and on March 26, a disciplinary procedure was initiated. The complainant indicated that she learned through the media that the Complutense transferred the disciplinary file of said professor to the Provincial Prosecutor’s Office dated April 10, 2025.
Likewise, this girl criticized that she had to find out from the press that the Prosecutor’s Office shelved the investigation proceedings for not having been able to “obtain the necessary elements to file a complaint for a crime against moral integrity.” For this reason, the complainant requested that “the disciplinary procedure be reactivated by continuing the processing of the disciplinary file initiated as indicated in the Prosecutor’s Office as soon as possible“. He also demanded that he be informed accordingly of the resolution of his claim.
Finally, he also demanded that the entire claim file be transferred to him so that he could exercise his rights in other instances if he considered it appropriate. A procedure that continues without resolution while Juan Carlos Monedero has returned to the Complutense.
