“The solution is not to destroy olive groves to put solar panels”

In a political scenario increasingly marked by tensions between national sovereignty and global agendas, a new “antipartid” emerges in Spain that promises to return power to citizens: IUTITY EUROPE. It is, in his words, a “citizen group” born in 2023 and chaired by Luis María Pardo, former civil guard and lawyer, who attended the European with the aim of eliminating the 2030 Agend They have put the focus on The Olivares de Jaén To criticize energy policy.

What about olive trees?

We wanted to give visibility to the complaint of the farmers of the Northern Campiña de Jaén, who have brought to justice a procedure to cut approximately 100,000 olive trees, with forecast to eliminate another 35,000 to install photovoltaic panels. It is essential to open a serene debate in Spain and Europe about the type of energy we need. Currently, renewable energies are being excessively prioritized without considering its effects on key sectors such as agricultural.

It raises, then, a contrast between renewable energies and the protection of the primary sector.

Exact. We cannot accept that the energy transition implies the destruction of agriculture. In addition, these companies, according to complaints, could be exceeding what they have been granted. As for renewables in general, we are concerned that all this will be financed with European public debt, mortgaging citizens to install an energy that does not necessarily benefit Spain, but other countries. They are converting Spain into the route of the plaque instead of “La Plata”; May Spain be a plug for other countries.

Do not see a 100% electrified and clean economy possible?

I see it complicated. Renewable energy has a very high cost, which is being paid with subsidies and public debt. A realistic debate about the balance between different energy sources, including nuclear. My position is that closing everything we have and administer only with photovoltaic and other renewables is impossible. It is not real.

Why do you want to eliminate the 2030 agenda?

The 2030 Agenda is presented as an ideal, but its real application harms sectors such as agrarian, with regulations and restrictions imposed by the EU. The strategy “from the farm to the table” or the European green pact affects our farmers, and we believe it is a mistake to follow this model without first performing a critical evaluation.

However, some argue that the agrarian crisis is due rather to phenomena such as droughts or price speculation than these sustainability policies.

If we accept that drought is a problem, the solution cannot be destroyed olive groves to put solar panels. In any case, European agrarian policy is weakening the primary sector, and agreements such as Mercosur could further aggravate the situation. From iustitia Europe we propose an active defense of the Spanish field and the promotion of policies that protect our production against decisions that benefit third countries to the detriment of our farmers. It cannot be that Morocco has become the main exporter of tomatoes surpassing Spain. We must make an EH assessment of what is happening with the agriculture sector in Spain, because it is the one that feeds us.

IE is criticized for using courts to generate distrust in parties and administrations, what do you think?

The first procedure we filed was in April 2024, on the occasion of the closure of the Telegram social network, a fact that generated a great controversy. We present a complaint against the magistrate for an alleged prevarication, defending the freedom of information and expression. Subsequently, we present ourselves to the European elections and denounce irregularities in the elections before the European Court of Human Rights. It should be noted that the Central Electoral Board, in its report of January 30, 2025, urged the Ministry of Interior to digitize the minutes of scrutiny, evidencing a structural problem in our electoral system.

And yes, we have appeared in the Koldo case, related to the management of mask contracts and PCR during the health crisis. Because? Because we consider that these facts should be clarified, since while the population was confined, some allegedly took advantage of that situation to obtain economic benefits with public funds.

Since 2020, my legal career has focused on the defense of fundamental rights. Many of the judicial actions undertaken have emerged in response to the violation of these rights, long before the creation of our political movement. Some of these causes have an obvious ideological component, but our intention is not to influence judicial procedures, but to guarantee justice.

The possible “political use” of popular action has also been questioned.

The Koldo case, for example, does not involve only a ministerial advisor, but several authorities. We are attending an institutionalization of corruption at various levels. Therefore, it is important that civil society participates in these processes and claims justice. Because popular action is key in the Spanish judicial system. We are accused of using justice for political purposes, but the reality is that the procedures only prosper if the judges consider that there are indications of crime. It is not we who admit the complaints, but the courts. In that sense, if a judge admits a complaint, it is because there are reasons to investigate.

At present, we have seen how the Prosecutor’s Office has been politicized in some procedures, with the attached state attorney general. Measures to limit popular action in judicial procedures have been promoted, which violates the Constitution and weakens citizen control over politicians. So, now ever, the need to maintain popular action as an essential tool of citizen control is reinforced.

Are you going to present in the next general elections?

Our main priority is to continue the fight against corruption – political or other – and advocate for the de -participation of state institutions, which have to be objective, neutral and independent. We cannot allow the Attorney General’s Office to be subject to the Government. Our goal is to continue denouncing corruption and present measures to improve transparency. As for future general elections in Spain, our intention is to present us when they are summoned. However, there is still no official call and we will make the final decision at the right time.
