Saturday’s gadget: LG CineBeam Q, a flowery projector

Cell phones, computers, watches, printers… Everything has become portable. It is not strange then that projectors also go this route. One that the LG CineBeam Q has used and with great success. We had already talked about a projector from the Korean manufacturer before, but its size and weight exceeded what could be considered portable. However, The CineBeam Q has all the qualifications to be a laptop in all sections.

According to the RAE, florido is an adjective similar to chosen or select. And the truth is that This projector does seem, due to materials, design and many of its features, to be a select device. If its weight (1.5 kilos) is low, so is its size: in height and depth it takes up less than a small TV remote. The black mirrored front and metallic colored sides give it a modern and neat appearance. It is resistant to wear and tear, but not to direct blows.

The handle at the bottom can be used to carry it and also to hold it and give it the appropriate degree of inclination for the image we want to project. And speaking of images… When setting up, it shows up quickly: just connect it to the WiFi networkcreate an account with LG and download the corresponding applications. The possibility of scanning a QR code to avoid having to register at each one is a plus in terms of speed.

It also highlights the speed when calibrating the image: it does so only by measuring the distance at which the screen is located. We only have to select the angle of inclination using the handle and how straight it is with respect to the projection surface. This one, obviously, is better to be white, but if it is light, it is enough to make it look very good. To preserve image quality, it is best not to separate yourself more than three meters from the “screen”. In this way it forms a 120-inch image (a diagonal of 3 meters), in 4K.

On the back it has three ports: the electronic power port, an HDMI port and a USB-C port. Yes, we had said it was portable. And it is: the USB-C port is You can connect an external battery (We recommend one above 10,000 mAh to be able to enjoy at least one full movie). With this in place we can take the CineBeam Q anywhere.

But here comes one of the two defects that we have found in the projector: the sound. Although the noise emitted by its motor is very low and is barely felt once in operation, the sound it reproduces is somewhat less powerful, both in quality and volume. Let’s not expect stereo or surround sound. When projecting the image forward, if we stand behind it, we lose quality. The best is, To see content, stand next to them and at most a little less than a meter in front of it, so as not to obstruct the image. This way the sound is much more enjoyable. Taking into account its price (€949), the sound could have one more plus. The “problem” lies in the image quality: while most projectors work with LEDs or high-pressure lamps, the CineBeam uses an RGB laser light source: better light emission, longer “life expectancy”, quality higher and better color reproduction, but much more expensive.

Regarding the remote control, personally, it is very good: minimalist size, with three quick accesses (Netflix, Prime and Disney) and the bare minimum. No numbers or letters: in total just eleven buttons. And all in a length similar to that of a mobile phone.

The second defect that we can attribute to the CineBeam Q is the lack of a case or travel bag to carry it. It has everything to be used outdoors: the quality, the sound, the weight, the possibility of external charging, but carrying it “naked” is not a comfortable option.

Verdict:

Beyond the image and sound quality (although it is not that high), its design and weight and connectivity, the best of theCineBeam Q is that it is a device that you want to play with, take on trips, show it in the garden. With the advantage that it will last several years.
