The batch of the best tomato of the egg variety of Toro has reached the record price of 18,000 euros in the thirteenth edition of the auction held this Friday in the Malaga town of Coín, where every year the best specimens of this product of the Guadalhorce region are chosen.
On this occasion, the winning bid has been that of a local neighbor, Francisco José Jiménez, for a lot of tomatoes by Daniel García Plaza and, as usual, The proceeds will be allocated to beneficial purposes, said the City of Coín.
The singer Kiki Morente has been the godfather of this edition, in which Antonio Gámez’s tomatoes have been in second place and thirdly the lot of Isabel Cortés.
“We have exceeded all records since we started almost 15 years ago this promotion of tomato,” said the mayor of Coín, Francisco Santos, who has expressed his “great joy because this money will be destined entirely to associations and collectives” of the municipality.
For his part, the vice president of the Diputación de Málaga, Cristóbal Ortega, highlighted the commitment of the institution for this product: “Thanks to the work of the producers and all the institutions involved we have managed to relaunch it and put it on the first line.”
The president of the Tomato Egg de Toro Association, José Carlos García, has underlined the “sacrifice of all farmers who have left the skin in this special year so that production has come forward.”
