When should you upgrade to an iPhone 16?

When the river makes noise… the saying goes. And the memes that follow each presentation of a new iPhone show that the latest generation does not always come with great innovations compared to the previous one. The key question then is when the leap occurs that makes it worthwhile or, basically, Tell me what model you have and I’ll tell you if the iPhone 16 is worth it for you..

To evaluate this we have taken into consideration different sections such as battery, memory, screen, processor, camera and connectivity. And, given the differences, The gap begins with the iPhone 13: If you have this or a previous generation, it is worth the upgrade.

In memory, for example, the iPhone 16 doubles that of the 13 and goes from 4 GB to 8 GB, it is not much, but it is the minimum to be able to use artificial intelligence, a configuration that is not available in previous generations.

Regarding the battery, we have five additional hours of use plus the advantage of a USB-C port, something that gives us greater versatility in terms of chargers. The processor A 18 is noticeably more powerful than the A15 and it is what enables the Apple Intelligence features to run, available when iOS 18.1 and later are installed. The screen is brighter (from 1,200 to 2,000 nits) and has a higher resolution (not by much, but enough).

As for cameras, the iPhone 16 has the much-mentioned Camera control for instant access and quick switching between settings for photos and videos. We also went from two 12 MP lenses to one 12 MP and one 48 MP on the back. The front camera maintains its 12 MP, although it has a larger aperture, which gives greater brightness to the images.

In Video recording is perhaps where the difference is most noticeable thanks to its ability to record in 4K and in slow motion with a specific setting to reduce ambient noise.

Wi-Fi 7 connectivity provides Much faster upload and download speeds if you have a gigabit connection at home and a Wi-Fi 7 router. Added to this is the famous Dynamic Island, which offers a new and useful notification system, standby mode to see useful widgets when the phone is idle and the possibility of making emergency calls via satellite, along with accident detection to alert emergency services and your contacts if we have an accident.
