Various airport systems, airlines, companies in Australia, television channels such as Sky Newsand many others have been affected by a global decline whose origin has been traced to the cybersecurity platform CrowdStrike.
What is CrowdStrike?
CrowdStrike is a IT security company that offers solutions to protect to cyberattack companies. It uses an agent-based sensor called Falcon that is installed on computers and servers running Windows, Mac or Linux operating systems.
This platform uses a cloud-hosted SaaS solution to manage policies, control reporting data, manage threats, and respond to them.
Problems with the update
Since early this morning, authorities in Australia reported that dozens of Companies were experiencing a system crash due to an issue with CrowdStrike. Shortly after, system outages began to be reported around the world, affecting Aena airports in Spain, Repsol and Iberdrola gas stations, US airlines, television channels such as Sky News, banks and other major services.
The error manifests itself as the Windows Blue Screen of Deathrendering computers unusable. A reboot should have fixed the problem, but instead the systems entered a reboot loop with no solution.
Sky News informed its viewers about the outage, while in the Spanish airports saw monitors turned off due to the bug, CrowdStrike has been broadcasting a recorded message stating that they are aware of the Windows bugs related to their Falcon sensor.
“Thank you for contacting CrowdStrike Support. We are aware of reports of crashes on Windows related to the Falcon sensor,” the message read.
Microsoft and CrowdStrike’s response
The failure appears to be related to a CrowdStrike Security Program UpdateBoth Microsoft and CrowdStrike are working to fix the issue and have issued an emergency bulletin with instructions for affected companies’ IT departments to mitigate the issue. CrowdStrike is attempting to roll back the update that caused the global outage.
Numerous Companies using CrowdStrike have suffered a downturn widespread breach of their systems. CrowdStrike’s cybersecurity platform is widely used by companies with Windows operating systems, which has amplified the impact of the problem.
While CrowdStrike and Microsoft They are working to resolve the situationaffected companies are still looking for ways to get back to normal as quickly as possible. Although CrowdStrike has not issued an official statement, its teams are providing guidance on how to resolve the outage and restore affected systems.
