warning for “heavy” rainfall in much of Spain

In this sense, the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has active alerts today for significant phenomena because they are expected “persistent and locally strong” rainfall with significant accumulations in western Galicia, western Central System and Cádizwhich can extend to other bordering areas. Furthermore, in Cádiz the rainfall may be accompanied by storms with small hail.

For their part, they are also expected wind gusts with “strong” intervals and/or “very strong” gusts in the northwest quadrant of the peninsula and in the western Pyrenees, in addition to possible fog in depressions in the northeast.

Cloudy skies with “strong and persistent” rains

The AEMET alert that a very active cold frontwhich is associated with a storm that is located in the north of the Peninsula, will cross the country from west to east throughout the day, reaching the Mediterranean in the last hours of the day.

Therefore, they are expected cloudy skies and precipitation that will extend from the northwest to the east, without reaching the Mediterranean environment or the Balearic Islands. However, precipitation is expected. “strong and persistent” in the south and west of Galicia, west of the Central System and in the southwest of Andalusia, where they could be accompanied by storms with small hail.

Besides, Light snowfall is expected in mountain areas of the northern halfwhere the elevation will initially be above 2,000 meters and then will drop to around 1,400/1,600 meters. Likewise, some Low morning cloudiness with some mists and fogs in the northeastern depressions. As well as slightly cloudy skies or high clouds in the Canary Islands, continuing the presence of hazealthough weak.

Descent in a large part of the Peninsula

The AEMET warns that the Maximum temperatures will increase in the plateaus and in the Guadalquivir Valley, while decreases will predominate in Iberia and the southeastwithout major changes in the rest. For their part, the minimums will rise in the southwest quadrant, although, again, without major changes in the rest. Likewise, theThe frosts will continue to retreat and will locally affect the Pyrenees and mountain ranges of the center and southeast of the peninsula.

“Strong” winds in the northwest and central mountains

For their part, the moderate winds from the west and southwest in the Peninsula and the Balearic Islands, with “strong” intervals and/or “very strong” gusts in the northwest quadrant and in mountainous areas of the center and eastern third of the peninsula. In the Canary Islands, for their part, winds are expected from the southwest moving to the west, generally weak.
