(VEOLIA) World Energy Day

Renewable energies have ceased to be a marginal alternative to become the central axis of the energy transition. The photovoltaic solar energyfor example, it has positioned itself as one of the more affordable electricity sources in the worldwith a constantly growing capacity. So much so that its generation capacity in 2050 is expected to be large enough to reduce the price of electricity in several daily times, something that promises to benefit both consumers and companies.

However, despite these advances, the dependence on fossil fuels remains high. The oil and gas industry is responsible for approximately 120 million tons of methane emissions per yearwhich is equivalent to a third of the total methane emissions generated by the human being.

The effects of global warming They are increasingly obvious: constantly increased temperatures, extreme meteorological phenomena, the thaw of glaciers and the loss of biodiversity. Faced with this reality, the decarbonization of the economy has become an unplazable objective.

Reduce carbon emissions It is, in addition to a responsibility, an opportunity to innovate and develop new technologies that guarantee sustainable economic growth.
