The president of the United States, donald trumpsigned this Tuesday a executive order to replace the term “artificial intelligence” with “superintelligence” in the official communications of the federal government and which also mandates establishing an official definition for this new concept.
The order, which seeks to improve the image of the AI At a time when criticism of this industry is growing in the United States, it forces federal departments and agencies to use “superintelligence” and the acronym “SI” in their correspondence, public communications and policy documents, and directs them to stop using “artificial intelligence” and “AI.”
Furthermore, instruct the Council of Presidential Advisors on Science and Technology propose a federal definition of “superintelligence” and determine what new executive actions would be necessary to apply it.
Finally, the White House places these measures within a strategy to accelerate the use of advanced systems in areas such as scientific research, medicine, energy and industry.
The decision comes six weeks into legislative elections in which Trump and the Republicans are risking their slim majority in Congress and in the midst of a growing debate about the impact of the data centers in communities and the risks of the most advanced AI systems, after the companies themselves warned about the need to increase safeguards for their development.
Trump, on the other hand, has rejected strict controls and defends the United States maintaining leadership over China.
The Republican received this Tuesday at the White House the heads of the main artificial intelligence and technology from the United States for a working lunch focused on the development of AI, the security of its advances and the expansion of the data centers necessary to sustain them.
At the end of the meeting, Trump signed, together with the leaders of the six largest American technology companies involved in the development of AI – Sundar Pichai (Google), Elon Musk (XAI), Dario Amodei (Anthropic), Mark Zuckerberg (Meta) and Jensen Huang (Nvidia) – a voluntary agreement to strengthen the artificial intelligence security through internal controls to monitor capabilities and behavior of the models (especially against risks such as cyber attacks), risk assessments and external reviews.
As part of this campaign to improve the image of AI in the country, Trump today announced a renewal of the online federal services supported by AI, with which the Administration intends to expand its functions so that users can carry out procedures such as applying for passports and accessing public benefits in a more comfortable and efficient way.
