With the theme “Resilience against natural threats: risk mitigation” and within the framework of the celebration of the Planet Earth Monththe educational fair Digital Planet EXPO 2024 It will be held from April 22 to 28, from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm, in the Central Atrium of the shopping center Plaza Las Americas.
The event, led by EcoExploratory: Puerto Rico Resilience Institutepromotes scientific education and the social impact of natural threats, raising awareness about how citizens can be more resilient to natural threats and alternatives to mitigate the risks of future disasters.
“The Digital Planet EXPO is the annual summit activity of the EcoExploratorio and is the center of gravity for the whole family to educate themselves about natural threats: floods, landslides, earthquakes, tsunamis, storms and hurricanes through the disciplines. STEAM (sciences, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics,” he expressed Jenny Guevaraexecutive director of EcoExploratorio, in a press release.
“We need to promote more resilient communities in the face of these natural threats, mitigate the impact and possible risks from the local scale to the state scale,” he added, highlighting that this will be the eighth year of the fair.
For its part, Ada Monzónmeteorologist and founder of the entity, indicated that “our education process on natural hazard issues is part of a daily mission in our organization. In these seven days of the Expo, the impact is multiplied by having an interdisciplinary group of collaborators and visitors from all over the islands, who talk, ask questions, receive information and have fun while learning in a safe way..
He noted that the advice, actions and guides that visitors will receive through publications, talks and activities are aimed at protecting life and property, and offering security and tranquility in the face of natural threats. “We need to promote collective resilience for the good of our communities,” she said.
Guevara and Monzón explained that the fair is held as part of a subsidy granted by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA, in English).
