The growth of the technology sector has resulted in the creation of units that improve themselves every year. A cellular New will become obsolete when the version comes out even more updated, bringing the problem of where to have the devices that will not be used anymore. Sometimes, they stay in a drawer at home indefinitely, but, on other occasions, they can be abandoned even on the shore of a beach.
In search of a solution, this next Saturday, June 14, between 9:00 am and 2:00 pm, there will be an event that citizens can carry their electronic disuse equipment to recycle. Organized by the organization Recycla your Cel, will take place at the market of José R. Millán square, in Hatillo.
In an interview with The new daythe founder of Recycla your Cel, Norberto Marchany LópezHe explained that, in addition to cell phones (which may be broken, old or wet), computers, “laptops”, video game consoles (from PlayStation, Nintendo and Switch) will be accepted.
“We need to recycle more because, if not, we are going to flood with garbage, and that garbage will contaminate the life of our children and grandchildren”Said Marcany López, highlighting the importance of establishing collection centers to properly handle waste.
Currently, you recycle your Cel collaborates with the collection centers in different municipalities, being the most recent Barceloneta, in May. Part of the organization’s mission is to achieve collaborative agreements with collection centers to present alternatives in different regions of Puerto Rico.
Marchany López stressed that, as an organization, you recycle your cell has accumulated more than 20,000 electronic units, which is equivalent to about 800 pounds. During this Saturday’s event, he added, participants will have the opportunity to deliver their units and then participate in a talk about the importance of recycling On the island. They can ask questions about electronic recycling, but also how it can be contributed to the well -being of the environment.
After the event, the units will be removed the batteries, and then packaged and sent to recycling centers. The functional parts will be reused by the electronic repair stores. With this, the need to buy a completely new cell phone is avoided, an action that saves money and reduces the chances of ending in the ocean, for example.
For Marchany López, organizing the event is part of a personal and community mission. “At 60, you will call me and ask what I am doing, and I will answer you: recycling cell phones. This is my mission and passion of life”.
Participation is free. Batteries, monitors or printers will not be accepted. More information here.
