Globally, more than one billion people use Google Maps daily and that must be add 5 million applications that use this app to function correctly. It is not strange, therefore, that it is updated frequently. And this is what is happening right now.
Google Maps is adding new navigation features that should make driving in the city center a little easier. When improved navigation rolls out this month, for example, the blue line on Google Maps will provide an image of the lane in which we should drive to make the next turn, while the map itself can show crosswalks, signs and lane restrictions.
This feature will be available on Android and iOS. Hopefully it should make driving through unfamiliar areas a little less stressfulas it will add to some of the other useful navigation features that Maps has, such as lane guidance and the ability to view routes in 3D.
Starting this week, Google Maps is also rolling out an update to its “destination guidance” feature that it showed off in July. In addition to highlighting your destination and the building’s entrance, the app will show nearby parking lotsparking location reminders, and walking instructions to the building’s front door. Google Maps is expanding its reporting system to include adverse weather conditions that could also affect your driving, such as low visibility, fog, snow, unplowed roads, or flooding.
In addition to these new features, Google is adding more AI features to the app that could help us find new places, while Waze is testing the ability to report incidents with your voice. We’ve seen Google make other notable changes to Maps in recent months, as it began using AI to summarize reviews of electric vehicle chargers and leverage its algorithm to surface recommendations for places to eat and visit.
