REASON celebrates today the II Day of Tribute to Nursing, a meeting that once again places the profession at the center of the health debate and that this year focuses on mental health, one of the great challenges of contemporary society.
The event, under the motto “Taking care of the mind is caring for life”, will have two top-level institutional presences: Queen Letizia, who will preside over the event, and the president of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, in charge of the closing. Their participation underlines the relevance of an event that aspires to consolidate itself as a national reference in the recognition of care.
The day will address mental health from a comprehensive perspective, covering all stages of life and analyzing how emotional disorders impact each phase. The tables will be moderated by leading officials in the field of health care and management, from Fuden, ANDE, Quirónsalud and the Infanta Cristina Hospital. The event will also incorporate first-person testimonies to make visible the real impact of mental disorders on families.
The meeting will open with a reflection on the current situation: a context marked by the increase in anxiety, depression and the problems derived from digital hyperconnection. Representatives of the General Nursing Council (CGE), Sermas, the College of Nursing of Madrid and professional associations will debate the need to reinforce the humanization of care, reduce stigma and improve coordination between levels of care.
His Majesty will dedicate an institutional greeting to the speakers after this table and before the lunch-cocktail.
In the afternoon, the sessions, presented by journalist Marta Robles, will delve into the child and adolescent mental health, a particularly sensitive area in which professionals detect an increase in eating disorders, self-harm and suicidal behavior. Specialist nurses from ED and community mental health units will explain how warning signs are identified and which early intervention strategies are most effective.
The block dedicated to adult population will address the impact of anxiety, depression and serious disorders that affect social and labor integration. Professionals will insist on the need to strengthen nursing teams to guarantee continued quality care, as well as the importance of multidisciplinary coordination.
The last part of the day will focus on the older people, a group especially vulnerable to depression, anxiety and cognitive decline. Nurses from hospitals in Madrid, Barcelona, Navarra and the Canary Islands will analyze the emotional overload of caregivers, both family and professional, and will propose ways to improve comprehensive care.
The closing, by Isabel Díaz Ayuso, It will put the institutional finishing touch to a day that aims to reinforce the role of nursing in mental health and make visible the importance of care at all stages of life.
LA RAZÓN continues in the wake that began with the first edition of this tribute, held in November 2025 and dedicated to oncology nursing. That call brought together 800 professionals and left a clear message in the sector: Nursing demands more recognition, better working conditions and a national strategy that reinforces its role in a stressed health system.
This protest spirit now serves as the basis for a second edition that expands the view towards mental health, an area where the profession plays a decisive role in prevention, early detection and comprehensive support of patients.
With this new day, LA RAZÓN reaffirms its commitment to the profession and continues an initiative that was born to recognize the work of those who support a large part of the health system.
The presence of Queen Letizia and the Madrid president underlines the relevance of a meeting that seeks to place mental health at the center of public debate and vindicate the essential role of Nursing in the construction of a more humane, more accessible and more prepared system for the challenges of the future.
