The networks explode against Salvador Illa: “Mr. President, where is your tweet about Olga, the resident of L’Hospitalet who committed suicide after being evicted?”

The message of Salvador Illa for the death of Maricarmen has received responses that recall another case, that of Olga Matute, a resident of L’Hospitalet de Llobregat who died by suicide months after being evicted. Several X users have asked the president of the Generalitat to also dedicate a few words to his family.

“Maricarmen’s death hits us. No one can remain indifferent,” Illa wrote, according to the Spanish translation shown in the publication. The leader added that politics cannot allow inhumane situations and expressed his commitment to continue working to prevent their repetition.

Among the responses, that of the user stands out @alexsnclmntwho shared the president’s message with a question. “Mr. President, where is your tweet about Olga, the resident of L’Hospitalet who committed suicide after being evicted?” says the translation of the text, originally published in Catalan.

The reproach to Illa for the attention to both cases

The author questions what he considers a political use of the victims’ pain. “Lamenting only the deaths that you can use politically is repugnant,” he maintains in his publication, which accumulated more than 36,000 views in the consulted capture.

Other comments support this reproach and ask that care for people affected by evictions not depend on where they live. The criticism is directed at the difference in visibility that its authors perceive between the Madrid case and those that occurred in Catalonia. It is an assessment of those participating in the conversation and does not prove, in itself, the absence of any previous statement by Illa about Olga.

Inés García also remembers Olga and her daughters

The journalist Ines Garcia He published another message in which he remembered that it was a month since Olga’s death. “I had two daughters and half my life ahead of me,” he wrote.

“Those who today feel the death of Mari Carmen as their own, could also have a memory and consideration for Olga’s family,” he added. Its publication exceeded 160,000 views at the time of capture.

That message generated responses of different nature. Some users shared the request to give more attention to the L’Hospitalet case. Others refused to contrast both stories and defended that the housing mobilizations demand protection for all people threatened by eviction.

Olga’s case had already reached the political debate

Olga’s death had sparked criticism before Maricarmen’s death. The past September 25the Madrid Housing Minister, Jorge Rodrigo, recalled that the resident of L’Hospitalet, mother of two daughters, had taken her life at the beginning of September, five months after losing her home.

According to Servimedia, Rodrigo then questioned the reaction of the left and proposed a comparison between the responsibilities attributed to Isabel Díaz Ayuso and Salvador Illa. The responses to the Catalan president’s message now recover that debate and demand that Olga’s name and her family’s situation are not left out of the public conversation either.
