The “must-see” visit to understand the largest Gothic cathedral in the world

The Archdiocese of Seville has recommended this Wednesday the visit to the emblematic church of El Salvadorwhich is part of the monumental complex of the Cathedral and the Giralda and whose knowledge is considered “essential to historically and artistically complement the construction of the Metropolitan Cathedral”. Not only does it supplement it, but it contextualizes it and helps to understand the sacred imprint of the spirituality of Seville, according to the ecclesiastical institution.

The Colegial del Salvador, located in the historic center of Seville, just three hundred meters from the Cathedral – the largest Gothic style cathedral in the world.allows you to combine both visits and better understand the origin and splendor of the city of Seville, the overlapping of cultures and its rich sacred heritage.

With the recent musealisation of the crypt, the history of the Church of Seville can be better understood, and the space can be visited at no additional cost.

The Church of El Salvador has its origins in the Umayyad mosque of the 9th century and is the oldest building in use in Seville. In 2004, the comprehensive restoration of the temple revealed for the first time the remains of the medieval prayer hall and its transformation into a Christian church after the conquest of Seville by Ferdinand III, King of Castile and Leon.

It is essential to visit it without rushing, to contemplate its details, the wonderful traces of its past always dedicated to worship and prayer, and to listen to the music that envelops the religious-cultural experience.
