Pavel Durov, founder of Telegram, arrested in France

Telegram founder Pavel Durov was arrested on Saturday night in France. French media reported that he was arrested at around 8pm on Saturday at Bourget airport, outside Paris.

The CEO of the messaging network had an arrest warrant in the framework of an investigation for serious crimes. According to local media, the arrest warrant is due to “Durov’s lack of cooperation with the French justice system” by not identifying or censoring Telegram users, and he is accused of being an “accomplice” to various crimes.

Potential charges Durov has been arrested for include supporting terrorism, drug trafficking, complicity in crime, massive fraud, money laundering, concealment, paedophile content or sanctions evasion.
