Formula 1 rHe returns next weekend to Zandvoort for the Dutch Grand Prix and the teams are already preparing their cars for the second part of the season. After Fernando Alonso’s complaints, Aston Martin is promising new improvements for the second part of the season, but the Spaniard is not confident of new advances after the fiascos of this season. Not in vain, the Silverstone team is the one that has introduced the most improvements throughout the season and the one that has worked the least. Now the objective is to consolidate its position in fifth position and get a little closer to the top 4, but taking into account that they are quite far away and this is what Alonso has acknowledged.
“We can’t hide that we struggled with Williams, RB and Alpine. Last year We were looking more at the top four teams and now, they are out of our reach“We are defending ourselves from the teams behind us,” said Alonso, making it clear that they cannot look at the teams ahead, as this is no longer their reality, at least in 2024.
“I am a racing driver. I would like to design the car, but I can’t. I don’t think so. I don’t think there is anything planned, so for us it is more about understanding the weaknesses of the car and the parts that we need to improve,” he continued. “But I think the focus is already on 2025. I don’t expect any more major developments in 2024,” added Fernando Alonso.
In the face of the promised improvements, the Asturian has not held back and has launched a dart at the team. “It’s not about promising improvements, but about making them work”sentence.
A total of 38 improvements
And it is not surprising, since there is a devastating fact that justifies the anger and disappointment of the Spanish driver. The Silverstone team is by far the one that has introduced the most improvements with a total of 38 and the one that has worked the least. They have made modifications in almost every race and, with a few exceptions, they have turned out to be a total fiasco.
The green team is aware of the drop in performance over the last two months of competition and that is why at the end of the break they want to come back stronger than ever. Mike Krack, head of Aston Martin, has assured that improvements will be implemented in the car for the Dutch Grand Prix. “For our part“We will continue to try to improve the car. There are some things planned for Zandvoort where we hope to close the gap again,” Krack assured on ‘Sky Sports’. Will the green team be able to find the key? Alonso has already given up on the season.
