Students, teachers and educators are invited to participate in the biosciences summit

For the fifth consecutive year, students, teachers and educators from public and private schools throughout the island will be able to participate in the virtual educational summit free of cost Bioscience STEM Summit, as part of an alliance between EcoExploratorio: Puerto Rico Science Museum and the Amgen Foundation.

The educational agenda for students will be held on Thursday, October 9, from 8:30 am to 12:00 pm, and for teachers and educators, on Friday, October 10, from 8:30 am to 12:00 pm

Elementary, middle and high school students, and homeschoolers from all over Puerto Rico can participate in the event. The summit will have an agenda of conferences led by scientists and experts in the field of biosciences and disciplines STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics).

“As part of our mission in informal education of STEM disciplines, including the field of biosciences, it is important to provide educational tools so that students, teachers and educators have all the opportunities that science can provide for their academic and professional development,” he indicated. For students, summit topics include “Microbiology and its applicability to the study of microorganisms,” “Synthetic biology and its applications to humans,” and LabXchange platformamong others. Meanwhile, educators and teachers will be able to educate themselves on topics such as “Molecular microbiology: research, experimentation and development of molecules”, “Chemistry and its multiple applications in the scientific field and “Study of bacteria in a microbial ecology laboratory”.

“We are committed to the development of students in the field of STEM, so that they aspire to become the future scientific leaders of the island and continue positioning Puerto Rico as a leader in biotechnology worldwide”expressed, for his part, Sylnés CentenoDirector of Corporate Affairs at Amgen Puerto Rico.

Among the scientists who will participate in the summit are the chemical and biomolecular engineer Luis Encarnacionbiotechnologist and microbiologist Elizabeth Padillathe professor Hector Ayalachemistry Ingrid Montes, molecular biologist and cancer immunologist Kevin Alicea and the meteorologist Ada Monzónfounder of EcoExploratorio.

Students, teachers and educators who participate will receive a green contact hour certificate. The educational program is endorsed by the Science Program of the Department of Education.
