Snow, wind, fog and waves put nine provinces on notice this Friday, according to the prediction of the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET). Of these, four are under an orange warning: Menorca (Balearic Islands) and Girona (Catalonia) due to strong waves, while Tarragona (Catalonia) and Castellón (Valencian Community) are on alert due to intense winds.
The cold will also be the protagonist of the day, with a notable drop in temperatures and frosts that will gain intensity in much of the country. In some places, thermometers could register drops of up to 10 degrees in just 24 hours.
All areas on alert this Friday
Catalonia will be the most affected region, with gusts of wind that could reach 90 km/h in the coastal zone of Tarragona and waves with waves of up to 5 meters in the Ampurdán. Balearics is also on orange alert, with a maritime storm that could generate waves of up to 5 meters, and even some occasionally 10 metersespecially affecting Menorca. Regarding temperatures, the AEMET predicts a general decrease, being more notable in the regions of the eastern half of the peninsula. In the northern interior of the peninsula the maximum temperatures will remain below 10ºC. On Saturday, the nighttime cold will intensifywith frosts that will extend to numerous regions of the peninsular interior. Several capitals will wake up with temperatures below zero, including Albacete, Cuenca, Palencia, Salamanca and Zamora, where minimum temperatures of up to -3 ºC are expected.
A DANA will leave rain and storms
On Saturday, stable and anticyclonic weather will predominate, with mostly clear or slightly cloudy skies. However, in the far north, the influence of a humid flow from the north will bring cloudy skies and precipitation in northern Galicia, the eastern Cantabrian Sea and the Pyrenees. In these areas, snowfall will be probable, with an elevation that will rise from 900/1100 m to exceed 1500 m.
