Saturday’s gadget: Amazfit Up, open and independent helmets

Along with Coros and Garmin, Amazfit is one of the favorites for smart watches for sports. Although there are others that have these capabilities (to measure distances, rhythms, blood oxygen and so on), these three manufacturers design their watches specifically for athletes. And the difference is noticeable. Now Amazfit has applied this knowledge to helmets, with its Amazfit Up.

As can be seen from the design, these are open headphones, similar to the very recent Nothing Ear (open) or the Huawei FreeClips and their objective is to “offer comfort, security and style to users with an active lifestyle.” What does this mean? That we can continue listening to audio while doing physical activitywithout disconnecting from what is happening around us.

The main characteristic of these helmets is that they are open, but to do so they have to guarantee complete stability in the ear. If you are going to play sports with them, the half measures of “running well, but a few extra jumps and they move” are not worth it. There are no grays here: either you fall or you don’t. And the Amazfit Up do not fall thanks to a very specific design that contemplates all types of auditory pavilions and at a weight reduced to a minimum: 5 grams.

They are comfortable, light and, despite being open type, they maintain a more than decent sound quality. They are not for music lovers, to lock yourself in a room and enjoy music, they are to be taken to the extreme. All of this contributes to ensuring that wearing them for several hours at a time is not a cause of discomfort. The truth is that you barely notice that we are wearing them, once we get used to their “hook”.

As for its battery, it is more than adequate for the use we would normally give it: six hours of continuous playback, plus another 18 thanks to the charging case. All The system charges completely in 2 hours and about 10 minutes of charging, gives us almost two hours of playback.

Another issue: the buttons that allow you to use the voice assistant or control volume, tracks and callsthey are well located and respond quickly. Which adds a layer of essential reliability when we are moving. The fact that they are textured adds a plus. The buttons have three possible options (not customizable): with one touch we play music or answer a call, with two touches we end the call or advance the track and with three touches we activate the AI option of the Zepp Flow app, its own of Amazfit watches. The latter facilitates the ability to send voice messages to text on Android or set the watch for certain sports options.

The design guarantees its immobilityAmazfitAmazfit

A very interesting detail of this compatibility is that We don’t have to carry our cell phone if we want to listen to music or a podcast: audio is stored directly on compatible watches.

Another interesting advantage is that the wind does not bother them at all, there are no jumps or discomfort when we move, as is the case with other helmets of similar design. They can be connect with two devices simultaneously, be they Android, iOS or Windows and, in home clocks, it takes advantage of Zepp compatibility to send data directly to the audio, without the need for us to be aware of the clock.

Verdict: For this price (€49.99) there are no better helmets for sports. If we add to that an Amazfit watch, the properties are hardly comparable to those of other helmets.
