For years, foldable phones have pursued a difficult promise to fulfill: offering the experience of a tablet without forcing the user to carry a large, heavy or uncomfortable device. Samsung has been leading the development of the folding mobile phone category in Spain for more than seven years.
The eighth collection comes with a profound redesign that focuses on how we really use mobile phones in 2026. YouTube Shorts, TikTok, Instagram, movies, series, reading or productivity. More than a simple update, Samsung proposes an ecosystem in which the three devices share DNA, but respond to different philosophies of use.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 is, possibly, the most disruptive piece of this range of foldables. Closed, it works as a passport-sized vertical screen ideal for viewing reels. When you open it, it changes proportion and behaves like a “pocket” cinema.
A larger vertical window for entertaining
Until now, the exterior screen of a Galaxy Z Fold had always been a long, narrow strip, useful for checking notifications, but perhaps somewhat uncomfortable for other uses. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 breaks with that formula to go for the passport format, totally social first100% designed so as not to miss a single trend, especially oriented towards the consumption of audiovisual content.
Closed, this model debuts a 5.5-inch external screen in 10:16, a proportion that is not coincidental: it is practically the same as that used by Instagram Reels, TikTok or YouTube Shorts. Samsung proposes for the first time a smartphone Foldable that when closed offers a really comfortable screen for that vertical video that today dominates content consumption on mobile phones.
When unfolded, the main screen jumps to 7.6 inches in 4:3 format, more square than the usual 16:9 of a television, with the aim that watching a movie or series feels like opening a window instead of stretching a panoramic image until it is deformed.
They are, in practice, two screens with two different vocations coexisting on the same phone with a new shape: one made for fast and vertical, another for slow and horizontal.
This design invites you to make the most of the screen, both closed to chat and watch short videos, and open to have the cinema in the palm of your hand.

The lightest folding in history?
This redesign does not penalize the body of the device. At 201 grams and 4.5 millimeters thick when open, it is the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 and its passport format has become the lightest foldable that Samsung has manufactured to date. This information is relevant because it is common that, when enlarging the screen, this has an impact on the weight. However, in this case, it is subtracted.
Downsizing often means sacrificing battery, cooling, or performance. It is not the case. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 incorporates the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen5 for Galaxy, a powerful processor that, according to the company, is 10% faster in CPU and 60% more powerful in graphics than the previous generation. In addition, its NPU is up to 6.9 times faster, an interesting fact if we take into account that many of the AI functions run directly on the device.
It is powered by a 4,800 mAh battery compatible with 45W fast charging and an announced autonomy of up to 26 hours of video playback.
And what camera do the new Galaxy Z foldables have?
The new model adopts a camera system based on a 50 megapixel main sensor inherited directly from the Samsung Galaxy S26, accompanied by an ultra wide angle. It takes advantage of the Pro Visual Engine image processor to offer a x2 zoom without noticeable loss of quality, with the same horizontal stabilization lock and the same Nightography technology for night video as the rest of the brand’s foldable family.
Among the innovations supported by artificial intelligence, the Automatic Reframing draws attention, which allows you to take a video recorded at a concert or a match, select who is the protagonist of the scene and automatically generate a clip trimmed and formatted for social networks, without going through any external video editor.
Added to this is a new stabilization system with horizontal lock designed to keep the horizon stable even when the user is walking or recording scenes with a lot of movement.
It is the direct translation of what Samsung proposes with the change in screen format: a device that no longer forces you to choose between recording well and publishing quickly.
Galaxy AI is no longer an extra
If in previous generations Galaxy AI left the feeling of being a set of independent functions, in the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 it tries to integrate it into practically the entire user experience. Writing tools allow you to summarize documents, change the tone of a text, or automatically compose responses. The notes assistant organizes information, generates summaries and makes it easy to find content. Photo editing incorporates intelligent object deletion and generative editing using written instructions. And the call assistant returns, capable of answering when the user cannot answer the phone.

Three foldable phones, three purposes
The new passport format of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 does not arrive alone. In this series there are two other models, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra and the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip8, which expand the range to reach more users. The three devices share a technical base (Gorilla Glass Victus 2 glass, Armor Aluminum structure, ultra-thin double-rail hinge, recycled materials in their manufacturing, within the Galaxy for the Planet program and seven years of guaranteed security updates, among others), but they are designed for different uses. That is, choosing one or the other does not depend so much on the specifications, but rather on what you are going to use that smartphone for.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra: productivity without compromises
With the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Samsung aims directly at those looking for a device capable of replacing, in many moments, the laptop. Closed it maintains the appearance of a smartphone conventional, with just 214 grams of weight and a surprisingly thin design. But when it is deployed it completely changes its personality.
Its large interior screen converts the multitasking in one of its main assets. It is possible to work with two applications open simultaneously, drag content between windows or consult a document while replying to an email, replicating an experience much closer to that of a computer than to that of a mobile phone.
The photographic section also takes an important leap. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 debuts a 200 megapixel main sensor accompanied by a 50 megapixel wide angle with 8K recording and improvements in Nightography for night photography and video. Thanks to image processing and the pixel binning technique, the system achieves brighter captures and a zoom of up to four times with little loss of quality.
The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen5 for Galaxy provides extra performance both in productivity and in games, with improvements in CPU, graphics and a much more powerful NPU that is completed with a 5,000 mAh battery, 45 W fast charging and Galaxy AI integrated into practically the entire experience.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip8: turn every photo into content
The model of smartphone Samsung’s most recognizable foldable takes a step forward in design and functionality. It is 8% thinner than its predecessor, with only 6.1 millimeters thick and 180 grams in weight, while its external screen grows thanks to frames of just 1.25 millimeters. With 120 Hz refresh rate and up to 2,600 nits of brightness, it is no longer a simple panel for notifications and becomes a space where you can respond to messages, access apps, take photos or interact with Galaxy AI without having to open the phone.
The main protagonist is, without a doubt, the FlexCam. By resting the partially folded device on a surface, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip8 can record videos, make video calls or capture selfies using the main cameras, with automatic subject tracking and without the need for a tripod. Samsung accompanies this proposal with a complete AI-based editing package to enhance portraits, delete or add elements using text instructions, and create personalized images or stickers ready to share instantly.
Inside, the new 2-nanometer Exynos 2600 brings more power and efficiency, with improvements in CPU, graphics and a faster NPU to run artificial intelligence functions smoothly and directly on the device.

A new way of understanding folding mobile phones
With this new generation of folding phones, Samsung not only updates the hardware, but also rethinks how a smartphone should adapt to the way we consume content. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 abandons the traditional approach to foldables to opt for a passport-sized format designed to alternate between vertical video and a more immersive experience when opening the device.
