From October 1 to 3 of this year, Puerto Rico will host the Regional Championship of the World Olympics of Robotics (WRO), a competition expected to be attended by teams from more than 20 countries in the Americas, Europe and Asia.
The event, whose purpose is to promote education and innovation in STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics), will be held at the Convention CenterIn San Juan.
“We believe our vibrant and dynamic island is the perfect setting to celebrate the spirit of creativity, teamwork and technological excellence that WRO embodies,” expressed in written statements Cesar Cabreraexecutive director of Techno Inventors and national organizer of WRO in Puerto Rico.
According to Cabrera, the selection of Puerto Rico as host represents an important milestone, as it is the first time that the island has received teams made up of students for this type of competition.
The director hopes that the celebration of this event will open a door for “to show the world that our island has the necessary framework to bring the International Final to the year 2026. This puts Puerto Rico in the world’s eye as a country that is developing cutting-edge technological education and cultivating competitive talents in STEAM disciplines.”
During the first day of competition, the Opening Ceremony will be held and participants will have the opportunity to practice and demonstrate their skills to the other competitors.
On the second day, the teams will compete in four different categories: RoboMission, RoboSport, Future Innovation and Future Engineers.
The last day will consist of visits to exhibitors, demonstrations and the award and closing ceremony.
