Small and medium-sized businesses, non-profit entities and Puerto Rican secondary schools will be able to compete for amounts between $25,000 and $1 million to amplify their social impacts through the call for applications. This year, in its eighteenth edition, the Prize invited participants to submit solutions in six categories: health, food, energy, water, climate action and global secondary schools.

In 2022, the young Dominican-Puerto Rican Aurora Badillo Calderón won $100,000 after participating in the Award in the global secondary schools category, with a proposal that converted used cooking oil into biodiesel to power the Iberia Institute of Education’s generator. As part of the application, participants must demonstrate the proven results of their proposals and meet the evaluation criteria for impact, innovation and inspiration.
Starting this year, a financing model was introduced that will allocate a total fund of $7.2 milliondistributed in $1 million for the winners of the five organizational categories, $150,000 for the winners of the global secondary schools category, $100,000 for the finalists in the five organizational categories and $25,000 for global high school finalists.
The evaluation of the candidatures will include a review of compliance with the fundamental criteria of the Award, an analysis by the Selection Committee composed of panels of independent international experts for each category and, finally, the finalists will be presented to the Award Jury that will unanimously choose the winners.
The winners will be announced at the Awards Ceremony in January 2027 in Abu Dhabi.
The Zayed Sustainability Prize has impacted the lives of more than 400 million people since 2008, through its initiative to empower global change-makers and continues the legacy of Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyanfounder of the UAE.
