Police and civil guards call off their demonstration: “We must focus all efforts on supporting the victims”

“Now is the time to focus all efforts on support victims and to work to solve the needs of the citizens of the affected areas.” The tragedy that devastated Valencia is the priority and for this reason the Platform No to Citizen Insecurity, which brings together more than 30 police unions and associations of the Guard Civil, has called off the concentration scheduled for next November 6 in front of the Congress of Deputies.

The agents also warn the Executive of the “need to put in place all the human and material resources of the Spanish Security Forces and Corps, so that they can act actively in the affected areas and be able to solve the serious problems of these citizens.” in the most effective way possible. It must be remembered that there have been many complaints from national police and civil guards regarding the negligence of the Government and the rejection of the Minister of the Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaskato act at the center of the tragedy.

However, from the platform they insist that the repeal of The Citizen Security Law “represents an attack on all citizens that they will see security in the streets diminished.” Likewise, they denounce that the reform of this law is a “direct attack” on all agentswho will lose many of the means necessary to guarantee the safety of citizens. For this reason, they assure that actions against this repeal will be resumed when possible.

Reasons to demonstrate

The rally planned for this Wednesday was intended to show the unrest of the agents against the repeal of the Citizen Security Law agreed between the Government of Pedro Sánchez and EH Bildu. Reform that occurs at a very negative time, as the different unions and associations have reiterated, with “demoralized and weakened troopsin a scenario of aggravated violence and with a fragrant loss of the principle of authority.” A situation that, they point out, “leads to a increase in attacks on police officers already a dangerous judicialization of the work of the agents with a total lack of support from the Government of Spain“.

On the other hand, they criticize the repeal of this law while turning its back on the historical demands of police and civil guards regarding salaries, equalization with the regional police, retirements and diets; the working day or the right to strike among others. In his opinion, the modifications that are intended to be made to the Citizen Security Law “will directly harm police effectiveness, with the consequent lack of protection for society.” And they add that the proposed reforms “go in the opposite direction to the needs of the State Security Forces and Bodies to face with guarantees the new challenges we face: high intensity crime, violent youth gangsinternational mafias or technological crime”.

Marlaska’s rejection of police and civil guards

After four days of rudeness and rejection by the Interior, the National Police and the Civil Guard were finally able to deploy to ground zero in Valencia. It was thanks to the efforts of the agents and their complaints about Marlaska’s negligence: “In an emergency of this type there can be no brakes applied. There cannot be available resources that are not mobilized.” Thus, they asked the Minister of the Interior to give the order to act and put aside the controversy over “demarcations” and “powers.”

The national police have also denounced “the serious lack of organization that the commanders in the management of this emergency caused by DANA.” They consider that the inaction and lack of coordination are so evident that “it would seem that they completely do not know how to deal with the situation. They are not doing anything, they do not know what to do and, what is even more worrying, they do not let those who do know do what they do.” And they concluded: “It is intolerable that, in a crisis of such magnitude, bureaucracy and lack of leadership block efforts of agents willing to help.

For their part, civil guards pointed out that there are “dozens of localities that need help, people to rescue and bodies to recover“They also suffer continuous looting in businesses, constantly hearing how the Civil Guard patrols continue to be overwhelmed, requesting reinforcements that never arrive.”
