Plants, recycling and fun for all: this was the Trujillo Alto Environmental Fair

Trujillo AltoFelita and Carmen Cruz They arrived early this Saturday at the Environmental Fair, in this municipality, in search of trees that help you control the “unbearable” heat of the Puerto Rican summer.

Both women – gardening and neighbors of the Metropolis urbanization, in Carolina– They said that, with other plants that have collected, they created a natural barrier in their balconies with which they have noticed a reduction in temperature inside their homes. So, sometimes, they do not have to turn on the air conditioning.

“How lucky that the municipality of Trujillo Alto is recycling! “Felita exclaimed on another components of the Environmental Fair, which was held, from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm, on the Bicentennial Paseo. “Municipalities have to make that easier for the citizen”he added.

With 21 environmental organizations, three workshop and the globetrotter – a show for children – the event brought together hundreds of people, he stressed, on the other hand, Ronalisse Esteban Rodríguezcoordinator of the municipality’s recycling program.

Upon arriving, on the ride there were tents on both sides. In each tent, in turn, there was an organization, small business or artisan leading environmental efforts. Although each person had their own reasons to go, they all shared the same mission: Create harmony with nature.

“We invite people to contact nature,” he said Virgen Gonzálezco -founder of Green tokean entity dedicated to bringing nature to households with plants elaborated through the Kakedama method – a Japanese artisanal technique that does not require plastic sides. “It is a source of freeing daily stress, while we work with nature”he added.

Precisely, to promote the appreciation of nature, the Environmental Fair gave fruit and medicinal trees to the first 200 participants.

For the artisan Edith Felicianoattending the event was part of its mission of being creative through different ways of recycling, which has been doing since 2014. Using ground cardboard and designed napkins, it creates multi -purposes decorations. The secret to his success, he stressed, is to do it with love.

“Youth is very willing to recycling”, He observed, in reaction to the diversity of people – of all ages – who approached to admire their work.

At the entrance of the Environmental Fair, a tent dedicated to creating butterflies with epiapipas (“pipers”) and napkins attracted crowds of curious children. Here, the little ones had the opportunity to see how easy it is to reuse materials and create art to help the environment, according to Eric D. Rojas Marrerocarp manager. There were even books on recycling, made with recyclable materials.

For many adults who attended children, the event was the ideal way to spend their Saturday.

“Without this, they would be at home, playing in everything that is digital”he shared José Serranowho participated in the Environmental Fair with the little girl Daleyah Quiñones.

Nearby, in the “Trujillana farm”, the laughter of the young intertwined among the songs of roosters and whispers of ponies was heard. This exhibition was integrated as a way to expand what includes taking care of the environment, in addition to sowing trees and recycling. For Quiñones, riding the ponies was the most he liked. Having the opportunity to interact with elements of nature, such as animals, in an entertaining way, gives young people the opportunity to raise awareness about why they take care of their environment, Serrano added.

The Environmental Fair has been held for three years and, according to the coordinator of the Municipality’s Recycling Program, the Mayor Pedro A. Rodríguez Wait to continue celebrating it.
