The National Court has released, upon payment of bail, Ahmed MA, one of those considered to be the ringleaders of the drug tunnel and brother of the deputy of the Ceuta Assembly Mohamed Ali Duas (MDyC), according to legal sources told LA RAZÓN. The defendant’s defense alleged that spending more time in prison could pose a “serious risk” to his health due to his illnesses.
Thus, the decision was made by the Section 4 of the Criminal Chamber which was in charge of settling the appeal for the release of this man who had been in jail since February 2 of this year. He had asked to go outside on up to five occasions, according to these same sources.
“Humanitarian issues”
In this case, the accused focused his speech on “humanitarian issues” and a “serious risk” to his health. His defense presented a forensic report explaining that he had to be urgently evaluated by an endocrinologist to determine his thyroid status and prescribe appropriate medication.
The investigation of the drug tunnel, as the judges explain in the release order, focuses on a criminal organization that was in charge of transporting hashish from Ceuta to Algeciras in trucks to which manholes had been installed. This band had “great impunity” since they had a “security structure made up of several Civil Guard officials stationed in the Port of Ceuta.”
