UFD, the Naturgy group electric distributor, will invest 1,330 million euros until 2028 to strengthen and digitize its electricity grid in Spain. The objective of these investments is to improve the service it offers to its customers and boost the development of the energy transition, as established by the new strategic plan approved by Naturgy this year.
Investments undertaken by UFD also aim to incorporate and provide quality service to new consumers and industries, within the electrification process of the economy provided for in the National Integrated Energy and Climate Plan. To meet this demand, it is essential that the regulation supports and facilitates the growth of the distribution network, eliminating the current bottlenecks and offering adequate remuneration.
The investments planned in this period will be used mainly to innovation and application of new technologies linked to telemedida and sensorization, as well as the stream of infrastructure through the construction of new lines and substations, or the renewal and modernization of existing facilities.
Only this year 2025, the company will invest 317 million euros, which will allocate advanced supervision projects in low voltage, actions in medium and high voltage, cybersecurity and advanced asset management, among others.
The bulk of the investment will be concentrated in Galicia, where UFD is the main electrical distributor, with a game of 586 million euros between 2025 and 2028. The rest of the investment will be distributed between Castilla-La Mancha (313 million), the Community of Madrid (266 million) and Castilla y León (165 million).
Improvement in supply quality
These investments will allow UFD to continue increasing the quality of electricity supply in their network. The company has managed to improve 17% the service offered to its customers compared to five years ago, measured through the interruption time equivalent to the installed power (TIEPI). This indicator was 32.6 minutes at the close of 2024.
Naturgy Network Director, Pedro Larreasays that “this investment will strengthen the group’s electrical networks and infrastructure in Spain, increasing the efficiency, safety and quality of the service and accelerating the energy transition by allowing more renewable energy, self -consumption and distributed generation to integrate.”
For his part Monica PuenteDirector of Electricity Networks Spain in Naturgy, highlights the reliability of the service offered by UFD: “The high investment volumes of recent years, together with the resources dedicated to operation and maintenance, have allowed the reliability of our service to reach 99.99% and we want to continue improving.”
Electric distribution networks play a strategic role to promote energy and digital transitions, guaranteeing electricity supply and supporting the growing integration of renewable generation and the development of new services such as self -consumption to advance the decarbonization objectives. This role requires investments for the modernization and expansion of existing infrastructure and its adaptation to new challenges.
