Tonight Mario Vaquerizo, the Spanish singer who plays one of the leading characters in the musical ‘Cabaret’, will go to have fun at ‘El Hormiguero’ at Espacio Delicias in Madrid. A new stage in his career, but not the only one, since the artist has also decided capture his experiences and learnings in his new bookwhich he will present on Pablo Motos’ program.
‘Illustrated cardadism: philosophy to survive falls without breaking your hair’ is the new work by Mario Vaquerizo Caro, in which the radio and television collaborator captures how he experienced one of the biggest scares of his life: the fall he suffered two years ago during the performance of the Nancys Rubias, his musical group, at the Hoteralia Festival. An episode of which, Fortunately, he came out without serious consequences..
As he explained in ‘El Hormiguero’, after the accident he had to do vocal exercises, since his larynx was crushed. Likewise, he had to undergo rehabilitation treatment to regain mobility in his neck. Despite this, he decided to take it as a lesson to learn from. “What happened was something that could have been fatal. We have the ability to positive everything and bring it to humor“.
A book in which he reflects on his accident and experiences
Now, two years after the accident and with his vocal capacity recovered, the artist decided to undertake one of the greatest challenges of his artistic career: acting as Emcee, the master of ceremonies, in the musical ‘Cabaret’. A role that, initially, rejected due to media criticismas he confessed in the program ‘It’s Federico’s morning’, but with which he has favorably surprised personalities such as Concha Velasco or Alejandro Amenábar.
Likewise, while he was in the process of recovering from the fall and preparing for his new professional project, the artist managed to write his new book. A work in which he can get naked and tell, without a filter, how he has been managing the criticism and labels that society imposed on him just for being different. Something that has led him to make headlines in different mediaas expressed in the program ‘Herrera en COPE’.
The artist confessed to having censored himself to avoid criticism
Precisely, in said interview, the artist took the opportunity to launch a harsh criticism of current society, which he sees immersed in populism and tension and for which has been forced to “self-censor”. A confession that came after being asked about the harsh criticism he received after having participated in an institutional tourism promotion campaign for the Community of Madrid.
“If another political party had called me to promote the Community of Madrid, I would have done it the same; I understand that they caught me because there is no one more from Madrid,” he said. A position that has been observed in the numerous interventions used by the artist to praise the autonomous community where he was born and grew up. Precisely, because of this love for his city, Vaquerizo has boasted of having six homes distributed in the capital.
An increasingly polarized world
Likewise, he took the opportunity to express his rejection of those artists who position themselves for or against a doctrine or dogma. “I try to be honest and there are things I like on one side and others on the other.. I am never going to sign a manifesto because it is important. There are many signatories who do not represent me. Here people do it to get the medals, but they lead by example,” he expressed in the program.
This line of thought, added to the wide variety of political programs that he compared to “‘Save me'”, has caused a quite polarized and extremist social panorama. “Now everything is black or white and there is pearl gray, which is very pretty“, he denounced. However, he recognized that this problem not only occurred in Spain, but had also begun to expand in other countries.
“Before you fled to another country in search of something better; now you can’t because everyone is the same. Tension, populism and exploiting confrontation is another pandemic,” he stated. An issue that he also reflects on in his new book and that he will talk about tonight during his visit to ‘El Hormiguero’.
