There are three sections that we must have very controlled (and they are the ones we value most) when buying a laptop: battery, weight and power. It must have enough energy to be able to work with it for at least 8 hours straight without requiring an umbilical cord. The ideal indicates that it should also allow us to travel with it and take it everywhere almost without feeling its weight. And finally, admit that it is an investment and that it should give us long-term benefits. The more the better.
All these premises are fulfilled the update of the latest LG Gram: the model 15 15Z80T. Its weight is below 1.3 kilos (it gives the impression of being “empty” because of how light it is), it has an aluminum chassis, resistant to shock, pressure, humidity and corrosion according to the military durability standard STD-MIL 810H, a 15-inch screen and a battery that, according to the manufacturer, allows us to work 27 hours straight. In practice, alternating more and less demanding tasks, with a high screen brightness and internet connection, we are looking at about 20 hours. Nothing, nothing bad.
To this we must add a very interesting microchip. It is not the most powerful at the moment, nor the most advanced: the Ryzen AI 7 350. It uses four Zen 5 and Zen 5c CPU cores each, as well as a Radeon 860M iGPU with 8 compute units (CU) based on the RDNA 3.5 architecture. And LG has adequately worked around it. What does this mean?
That performance and battery are in line, the graphics card is coordinated so as not to consume more battery and still take advantage of maximum power. In a laptop like this, perfect for those who work most of the day outside of an office and need to rely on it, the necessary power is not that which seeks gold in the 100 meters, but rather the record in marathons completed.
The LG 15 15Z80T includes two USB type A and two type C ports, one of them with fast charging. And this is important because it charges through a USB-C port: if we lose, forget or break the original charger (very solid, it must be said and with three meters of extension) we have this emergency option. It also has an HDMI port and a 3.5 mm headphone connection.
The RAM memory is 32 GB and the storage is 1 TB. It is a lot, we must admit, but taking into account that there are mobile phones that already have this capacity, I would have liked a little more storage. Another detail that I would have liked to see is that the keyboard had backlighting. And now If it had a touch screen, it would be an honors certificate.
Also worth noting the speed of identification, whether by fingerprint or facial recognition using the camera: both very fast. And the pad is light and responds easily and intuitively.
In ancient Greece, the chair was the chair that a teacher occupied when giving class. It was a place of preference and recognition. This latest LG model, He wants to occupy a chair of his own. And he gets it.
Verdict: Taking into account that it already has all the systems that we may need installed (Windows 11, AI, Dolby…) and a price of €1,398, it is an important investment, but it is one that we are going to take advantage of for several years.
