Ralph Fiennes, actor in ‘Conclave’: “I am curious to know who will choose as Pope”
Actor Ralph Fiennes, protagonist of the film ‘Conclave’, has confessed this Friday in Barcelona that the coincidence now with the choice of a new Pope makes him see the images and think of an experience lived and expresses his “curiosity to know who they will choose.”
Fiennes, who has presented at the BCN Film Fest Festival his latest film, ‘The Return’, in which he plays the Homeric character of Odysseus, has confessed: “I see the images and I think that I have already been there, but I am curious to know who they will choose, just because of the fact of having made the movie.”
“I am interested in the conclave for the readings, for the research I had to do for the character and for making a film and the whole process, otherwise, surely I would not pay attention to him,” said the British actor.
Fiennes, who was Catholic a long time ago, has always found peculiar this structure of the Catholic Church and the way to choose its leader.
For the actor of ‘The English patient’, the movie ‘Conclave’ “reflects very well the different factions and divisions” that concur in the choice of a new Pope.
Next to him, the Italian director based in London Uberto Pasolini has added: “He would not expect Pope Francis to have been able to influence enough among the cardinals to allow the choice of another progressive pope to continue with this journey, but we do not know what will happen.”
