International technological leaders meet in Malaga to defend rights and freedoms in the digital age

EmpowerLIVEthe international reference meeting promoted by the Cibervolunteers Foundation since 2006 on the use of technology to improve the world, brings together on October 7 and 8 at the Echegaray Theater in Malaga more than 20 international leaders and researchers and around 250 experts who work, worldwide, to protect human rights, face major global challenges and promote ethical technology at the service of people.

The inauguration of this XVII edition (Tuesday, October 7, at 09:30 a.m.) will be carried out by Yolanda RuedaFounder and current President of Fundación Cibervoluntarios.

With the motto “Citizen Digital Sovereignty: Hacking global challenges”, #EmpoderaLIVE rThis edition brings together more than 250 experts from institutions, entities, universities and civil society, who are working to build more fair and inclusive technological models that guarantee digital rights, strengthen democracy and put innovation at the service of people in solving the great social, environmental and economic challenges of our time.

EmpowerLIVE 2025 will bring together international voices that are setting the course for technology with social impact. Among them, Monique Morrow, recognized as one of the 50 most influential women in technology by Forbes and a reference in the defense of digital rights, and Ananya Chadha, an innovator who at the age of 16 combined genetics and blockchain, founder and director of an AI startup to generate video.

Also participating will be Betelhem Dessie, a pioneer in training young people in robotics, AI and programming in Africa; Tasos Stampelos, who works for a fairer and more transparent Internet at Mozilla; Irina Velasco, reference in applying collective intelligence to accelerate the SDGs; and Solana Larsen, journalist and editor of publications that defend rights and diversity on the Internet from the Open Knowledge Foundation. From the field of social entrepreneurship, Gabriela Chang and Jori Armbruster stand out, creators of EthicHub, a platform that connects farmers without access to banking with global investors.

The event will also feature Sarven Capadisli and Virginia Balseiro, leaders of the decentralized web and open software; Goran Buldioski, key figure in the European debate on governance and democracy; Salvatore Romano, supervises the algorithms from civil society that demand responsibility from large technology companies in Europe and the world; Melissa Muñoz, promotes AI models for governance in Latin America; Andy Piper, key voice in the global expansion of Mastodon and free software. And Raúl Magallón will present SmartVote, an initiative that promotes the fight against disinformation in Spain and Portugal to stop its impact on our democracies.
