Historic Ponce ceiba loses its last branch after years of deterioration

The last branch of the historical Ponce Ceiba fell this Monday, thus marking the final chapter of one of the most important natural and cultural symbols of the Stately City.

The mayor of Ponce, Marlese Sifrereacted to the event with a message published on his social networksin which he highlighted the historical value of the tree and stated that its legacy will remain as part of the municipality’s identity.

“The Ceiba was not simply a tree. It was an immense symbol of our identity; a silent witness to the passage of time, the growth of Ponce and the lives of thousands of generations who found in it a meeting point, inspiration and belonging”said the municipal leader.

Sifre highlighted that, under the shade of the tree, family memories were built and the sense of belonging of the people of Ponce was strengthened, while highlighting its influence on artists, writers and poets.
