If there is a bad time for a computer, especially if we are talking about laptops, is the summer. The high temperatures common in most of the peninsula cause the equipment to work touching its thermal limit and this can have a number of detrimental consequences for your components. There are various methods to efficiently control the temperature at which a PC is working, but require certain technical knowledge to, in some cases, access the computer’s BIOS and, in others, use highly specialized software with which you manage parameters that, if poorly established, can lead to a defective operation of the computer. What is not so abundant are the simple solutions for a more standard type of user who doesn’t want to get into technical aspects and just wants it to work properly. That’s what it offers Chamomile.
Camomile, chamomile in English, is a free application for Windows developed by Outbyte and launched this year, which is presented as a way of optimize the CPU of any computer. It monitors its temperature and that of other components, GPU and disk drives, and also the speed at which the CPU is working. The only action it allows the user to perform is to activate the Cooling Mode or Cooling Mode via a button in a simple interface, as can be seen in the image at the top of the article.
When activated, Camomile reduces the operating speed of the CPU in order to lower its temperature and maintain it, depending on its characteristics, below 40 or 50 degreeslevels that no PC CPU has any problems with. Typically, their maximum operating limit is around 100 degrees, but having them run at such high temperatures can result in crashes, damaged components and data loss.
What Camomile does is similar to the function Thermal Throttling that manufacturers include with their CPUs. This is activated when the temperature gets dangerously close to the operating limit and drastically reduces the speed of the processor so that it does not end up burning out. The difference is that Thermal Throttling is activated When the team is at its limitgenerally reaching 90 degrees, and the drop in performance is very pronounced.
Camomile only cares that the CPU does not exceed a certain temperature and affects performance lessFor example, with an AMD 5800X CPU with a base frequency of 3.80 GHz and a maximum of 4.7, it maintains a speed of between 3 GHz and the base speed, which is more than enough power for most tasks, although not the most intensive ones such as the most resource-demanding video games. The temperature does not exceed 50 degrees at any time.
When installed, the program gives the option to start every time Windows does and thus have the temperature of the equipment under control without having to worry. It has other benefits: extends the life of components By not subjecting them to as much thermal stress, it causes the equipment to consume less energy and, in the case of laptops, extends battery life.
It is also useful for lower the decibels that a laptop emits when the heat hits and runs its fans to maximumCamomile is a very easy-to-use app, you just have to activate the Cooling Mode button, which effectively helps to ensure that our equipment does not suffer more than necessary in summer.
