He forest fire declared last Thursday in the Sierra Norte of Guadalajara, it continues outside the extinction capacity and has already devastated close to 30,000 hectaresconsolidating itself as the largest recorded this year in Castilla-La Mancha. Although the operation has managed to stop the advance of the fire in some sectors thanks to the maneuvers carried out during the last hours, those responsible for the emergency insist that there is still a lot of work ahead and that we cannot speak of a controlled fire.
The fire maintains a perimeter greater than 120 kilometers and has so far forced evacuate 34 localities and confine another 14, with more than 1,200 people affected. During the night, the teams have intensified offensive work on the head of the fire, which has allowed part of the northern area to be stabilized and work to also begin on the flanks. In addition, the operation plans to reevaluate the situation in some municipalities to study whether certain evacuations can be lifted depending on the evolution of the fire.
More than a thousand troops participate in the device, with the largest deployment carried out to date by the Infocam Plan and the Military Emergency Unit (UME). The Government of Castilla-La Mancha maintains level 2 of emergency considering that it allows mobilizing all the necessary resources without losing direction of the operation, while the central Executive has already announced that it will finance 50% of the recovery of the Sierra Norte once the emergency ends.
Added to the complex situation of La Mierla is the fire declared this past Tuesday in Selasalso in Guadalajara. The fire has been raised to level 2, has forced the evacuation of six towns and has mobilized resources from several autonomous communities, in addition to the EMU. The simultaneity of both fires has led to reorganizing the extinguishing operation to face one of the most complicated days of the summer in the province.
