Goodbye to April summer? The weather in Spain could take a turn from Monday the 20th

The atmospheric stability will mark the time in Spain during the next few days, with a clear predominance of anticyclonic conditions and very little rainfall. According to the prediction of the spokesperson of the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET)Rubén del Campo, the scenario will be dominated by few cloudy skies and a progressive rise in temperatures.

“We are talking, therefore, about temperatures more typical of the month of June what of April and that could last until, at least, the beginning of next week,” he points out.

Little rain and general rise in temperatures

The rains will generally be scarce and limited to points of Galicia and some showers in mountain areas. The highlight will be the thermal rise. This Thursday the thermometers will exceed the 24 or 25ºC in many parts of the country. Declines will only be recorded in the extreme southeast. Inside, the thermometers will be placed between 5 and 10ºC above usual for these dates. In cities like Sevillecould even reach or exceed the 30ºC.

On Friday Seville will touch 32ºC

Again, Friday will be a day with stable weather. Clear skies will predominate, with some high clouds and the possibility of isolated showers in mountain areas. Temperatures will continue to rise. Zaragoza, Huelva and Badajoz will be around 30ºCwhile in Seville could exceed 32ºC. The minimum temperatures will also rise, reaching between 12 and 14ºC in the south of the peninsula.

Weekend with increased instability

During the weekend the pattern will hardly change. According to Del Campo, the biggest novelty will be a somewhat more unstable atmosphere which could lead to some weak rainfall in the Cantabrian and isolated showers in mountain areas, somewhat more intense in the northeast of the Peninsula.

In much of Spain, daytime values will be between 5 and 10ºC above normal. Temperatures will exceed 25ºC across the board and 30ºC in areas of the southern half and the northeast. Seville could once again exceed 32ºC.

Possible changes starting Monday

The trend could change from Monday 20. From Meteored they point out that a change in atmospheric circulation in Spain, with a more dynamic pattern due to polar jet undulations and possible anticyclonic blocking at high latitudes, something common in spring.

The evolution is uncertain and according to Meteored the models propose several scenarios. On the one hand, “high pressures could be between Iceland and the British Isles which allows the arrival of cold airof retrograde evolution from the European continent or the Mediterranean”; this would cause acooler environment and stormy showers more frequent and intense.

On the other hand, the formation of a “greatomega lock in the North Atlantic, with high pressure rising over or near Spain.” In this case, precipitation would be more irregular and localized, with some fronts affecting mainly the north, leaving much of the country in an intermediate situation.
