The Sevillian publishing house Senderos, under the direction of Prof. Juan Arana, an academic from the Moral and Political Sciences, among many other things, has recently launched the Library of Fundamental Concepts collection. Within which he has just published the book “What is economics?”, by Prof. Ramón Tamames, or that is, of which this subscribes.
Let us remember, it is essential, the etymology of that word of Greek origin, being oikos house, and nomos administration, we already have a first concept of what Plato and Aristotle understood by economy.
With Economics, we attempt to fully understand the underlying rationality of human actions in everything related to producing goods and services, studying their exchange, and analyzing the accumulations of wealth and income. All this in an environment of institutions that serves as a framework for the economic structure. Name given precisely in Spain to the subject that I have taught for so many years at the university, with my book Economic Structure of Spain, which is on its way to its 27th edition, 65 years after its release on the market in 1960.
Following is a summary of the first chapters into which my new work “What is economics?” is divided:
1. Development of economic science through mercantilism, physiocracy, Classical and Marxian Schools, American institutionalism, Keynesian revolution, neoclassical school, etc.
2. Costs and prices, with variations in supply and demand, price classes, dumping.
3. Economic agents, businessmen, workers and the public sector.
4. Macroeconomic magnitudes and social accounting, etc.
Get hold of this new abbreviated vision of the Economy, which is the result of thinking for many years. About a matter that is increasingly important in the analysis of any society.
Thanks in advance.
