Commitment against energy vulnerability

For Naturgy, people are at the center, and even more so the groups that need protection. That is why for more than 30 years he has supported his business work with his social work through the Naturgy Foundation. The entity, created in 1992, is present in those countries where the company operates and currently focuses its activity on helping to alleviate energy vulnerability and promoting training and dissemination on energy and efficiency in society.

Among the Foundation’s initiatives, its Energy Vulnerability Plan stands out, which was born in 2017. It has different lines of action, such as the Energy Rehabilitation Solidarity Fund, with which express rehabilitation works are carried out on the homes of families in vulnerable situations. It is one of the largest initiatives of the private foundation sector on energy poverty in Europe. By the end of 2024, it had rehabilitated more than 5,190 homes.

The Foundation also provides solar energy to care and residential centers. To date, 29 projects have been carried out with almost 7,000 people benefiting. In addition, the Foundation carries out volunteer activities and has its own “Energy School”, where trainers give workshops on the functioning of the energy sector in general, reading and understanding the bill, offering energy efficiency advice, explaining the social bonus or legislative changes. The School is already present in more than 900 municipalities, and more than 40,500 people have already been trained in efficient consumption and energy law.

Added to these three lines are innovative projects, research studies, debate forums and specialized publications that feed knowledge about energy poverty. Last year, the Naturgy Foundation launched “Energy Recipe”, a program that allows patients with home electrical treatments and in vulnerable situations to benefit from financial aid to cover their energy costs. So far, it has been implemented in the San Juan de Dios del Aljarafe hospital center in Seville and the Sagrado Corazón Hospital in Barcelona.

Best social initiative

The Naturgy Foundation has launched the Award for the best social initiative in the energy field to recognize, promote and give visibility to other entities and institutions, or individuals, that also stand out for their social contribution thanks to projects linked to energy. This award, worth 100,000 euros, has received 422 applications throughout its 6 editions, which represents more than 1.2 million beneficiaries.

For its part, the Foundation has not remained immune to the ravages of DANA and has launched its plan “Adding Energies for Valencia”, which will benefit more than 40,000 people through energy rehabilitation or the donation of solar panels in care centers for vulnerable people.
