amazon recently renewed most of its catalog of e-book readers Kindle. In addition to new versions of the models Kindle, Write and Paperwhitethe company added a brand new Kindle, Colorsoftwhich is the first to launch with color screen. It has been available since last October 30, but less than a week after its release, amazon has stopped deliveries. The reason is the screen problems that some users are experiencing and which has led to scheduled deliveries being delayed for weeks and months.
Buyers who have received the Kindle Colorsoft report a yellowish bar at the bottom of the screen and complain of a blurry and grainy display which they claim causes eye fatigue and headaches.
Currently, the device has an average rating of 2.7 stars out of 5 on the American Amazon website, after more than 550 reviews. Lowest user rating for a Kindle device. On Amazon Spain, with much fewer ratings, 17, it is 3 out of 5. Again, the worst of a Kindle in the Amazon store. In this case, the reviews are few, but some also report the aforementioned problems with the screen.
‘The screen compared to my Paperwhite Signature Edition 2021 seems to have a mesh fabric covering it, much less clear and bluish in color. It also has a yellowish tone near the bottom edges of the device. and the lighting does not seem homogeneous at all’ points out one user. Other testimony indicates that ‘the bottom edge of the screen has a yellowish color which is not the same as the rest of the screen, and the covers look a little pixelated.’ There are other negative reviews for the same reason, but also from other users who have not encountered the problem and praise the device.
In response to these complaints, Amazon has Postponed deliveries for new orders and unfulfilled pre-orders. Customers in the United States can now expect to receive their devices between November 9 and 18; those in the UK might have to wait until November 26. In Spain, it is indicated that it will be delivered, at the time of writing this article, between February 11 and April 16.
Amazon has confirmed the problem to several technology media. ‘A small number of customers have reported a yellow band along the bottom of the screen. We take the quality of our products very seriously – customers who notice this can contact our customer service team for a replacement or refund, and we are making appropriate adjustments to ensure new devices do not experience this issue in the future’, the company explained to Neowin.
It is not clear whether these problems are due to hardware or software. In the latter case, it would be easier to solve.
