“The artificial intelligence “(AI) is transforming the world and the way we relate to it.” This was stated by the general director of the GSMA, Vivek Badrinath, in his speech at this year’s Mobile World Congress (MWC). This technological event was held at the Gran Via Fira in Barcelona from March 2 to 5 and received 105,000 attendees from more than 200 countries and territories.
The telecommunications sector, in Badrinath’s eyes, has a “crucial role” in the development of AI. For this reason, the global association of telecommunications operators, GSMA, announced at this technology event the “Open Telco AI” project, a global initiative to accelerate the adoption of artificial intelligence in this sector, through open collaboration between the entire ecosystem of operators, suppliers and AI developers.
For its part, Telefónica presented SOC del Futuro, a new cybersecurity service that transforms the traditional security operations center model into a cognitive and automated system to improve the cyber resilience of companies. The tool integrates AI into the main cybersecurity platforms on the market and combines it with automations and own use cases developed by Telefónica Tech.
Deutsche Telekom presented the Magenta call assistant, a proposal that shows its vision of what calls will be like in the future. This technology integrates AI into the telephone conversationallowing its use immediately and in real time, without the need for additional applications or high-end devices.
In addition to large telecoms, different institutions and companies are promoting artificial intelligence. The Minister for Digital Transformation and Public Service, Óscar López, announced at the MWC the start of the first use cases of ALIA, the Spanish public artificial intelligence infrastructure presented last December. The project seeks to democratize access to AI for the productive fabric, especially for SMEs, through a public, open and free language model trained in Spanish and the official languages. Several companies showed practical applications of this technology, such as conversational assistants for public administrations, tools to improve the internal management of the Tax Agency or heritage digitalization projects, including the digital twin of the Alhambra in Granada.
For its part, the technology company ZTE presented several innovations based on artificial intelligence, with the aim of integrating this technology into networks, devices and digital platforms. Advances include new network architectures powered by AI, prototypes linked to 6G, connectivity solutions such as Wi-Fi 8 and smart devices, as well as developments for smartphones and video games.
The Spanish consulting firm SPC presented ZEUS HALO, a platform based on artificial intelligence (AI) for telecare and elder care, with the aim of moving from a traditional home care model to a predictive model.
“The next breakthrough in AI could come from anywhere, but only if everyone is connected”Badrinath concluded.
