The AEMET warns of the thermal collapse before the Pilar Bridge: polar air, minimums of 5ºC and a DANA on the prowl

Fully autumnal turn at the gates of the Puente del Pilar. The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has warned of a sharp drop in temperatures due to the arrival of a polar air mass. The thermal collapse will force us to take out warm clothing in much of Spain, with early mornings below 5 °C just before a long weekend. At the same time, meteorologists are monitoring a new DANA southwest of the Peninsula, which will leave rain and storms in different areas during the Pilar weekend.

According to the AEMET, the Peninsula will be under a humid flow from the north this Thursday that will leave persistent rainfall and accumulation of water in the Cantabrian Sea, as well as strong showers with storm and hail in the Balearic Islands and eastern Catalonia. In addition, the first snowfalls of the season will be recorded on the peaks of the Pyrenees, while stability will predominate in the southern half with the possibility of some isolated showers in the southeast.

Orange and yellow warnings for wind and sea storms

A total of four autonomous communities are today under warning due to heavy rain, winds and/or sea storms. Catalonia is at orange level (significant risk) due to gusts of up to 90 kilometers per hour in the southern precoast of Tarragona and due to coastal phenomena in Ampurdán (Girona)where waves of up to 4 meters may be recorded.

In addition to Catalonia, three other communities are under yellow notice: Aragon and the Valencian Community due to wind, and the Balearic Islands due to heavy rain and gusts of wind.

Thermal drop: the cold intensifies before the Pilar Bridge

The drop in temperatures will begin progressively this Thursday, but Friday will be the coldest day in much of Spain. The decline will be especially pronounced in the center, south and east of the peninsula, as well as in the Balearic Islands.

According to the AEMET, the early mornings will be especially cold in large areas of the interior. Salamanca, Segovia, Burgos, Ávila and León could wake up with less than 5 ºC, while Madrid will remain around 7 ºC. During the central hours of the day, lMaximum temperatures will barely exceed 20 ºC in much of the north and center.

DANA sets its sights on the south and the Canary Islands

The thermal drop could coincide with the presence of a DANA that will condition the weather situation for much of the weekend. According to the eltiempo.es forecast, on Friday the 9th, coinciding with Operation Exit, the most intense and persistent rains will be concentrated in points of the peninsular third, Ceuta and the Canary Islandswhere they could be accompanied by a storm.

On Saturday the 10th, the rains will continue in the Canary Islands, although they will tend to subside. At the same time, the easterly wind associated with DANA will favor the showers in Cádiz, Málaga, Granada, Ceuta and Melilla, according to eltiempo.es forecasts.

On Sunday the 11th, stability will gain ground in almost the entire country. Even so, they will be able to register Scattered showers in southern Andalusia and the Canary Islands. In the north, the end of a weakened front will leave lWeak rains in the Cantabrian Sea, northern Galicia and the Pyrenees.

The weather on Monday, October 12, Pilar Day

The heavens will be pcloudy or clear weather in much of Spain and Temperatures will rise across the board. The maximums will be between 20 ºC and 25 ºC in much of the countrys, although they may reach the 28 ºC or 29 ºC in points of the southwest of the peninsula.

There will only be some weak and isolated showers in the afternoon in parts of the Balearic Islands, the southeast of the peninsula (Valencian Community, Murcia and Almería) and the most mountainous areas of the Canary Islands.
