Since Samsung and Google launched their first foldables in 2019 and 2023, respectively, rumors about the first iPhone of this type who would now, finally, be about to be presented next week. In recent years, Apple has diversified its catalog with affordable iPhones from the e series and the ultrathin airbut none of them is as interesting an addition as the first foldable from the company led today by John Ternusafter Tim Cook has left the CEO position after 15 years.

When is the iPhone Fold released?
Last week, Apple announced that its annual event to present the new iPhones will be held on September 9. In addition to the iPhone Fold, the company is expected to announce the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. The base iPhone 18 is postponed until early 2027 and will be launched alongside the iPhone 18e.

This last name has a problem and that is that Samsung has renamed its most advanced foldable as Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra to further differentiate it from its new folding with a format similar to that of a passport, Galaxy Z Fold8. Since both Apple’s first foldable and Samsung’s Z Fold8 adopt this book-style design, lower and wider than usual, It remains to be seen if Apple finally chooses to use the Ultra name or prefers to differentiate it from its rival.

The rivals of the iPhone Fold
The most direct competitors of Apple’s next foldable will be the Galaxy Z Fold8, Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra and the Pixel 11 Pro Fold. Foldables from Samsung and Google have been launched over the past two months and feature the most advanced specifications from their respective manufacturers.
The Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra is part of 2,199 eurosthe Galaxy Z Fold8 €1,999 and the Pixel 11 Pro Fold, which Google does not bring to the Spanish market, starts in $1,899 in the United States. According to the most recent estimates, the foldable iPhone will be in a range between $2,300 and $2,500, equivalent to between 2,000 and 2,160 euros.
Despite its high price, the iPhone Fold / Ultra would do without Face ID and would use Touch ID. It would not incorporate a telephoto camera and Apple would be testing a stylus to use with the device.
