The fires in Spain continue to mobilize thousands of troops on a day in which the main operations remain deployed in Madrid, Ávila, Toledo and Castellón. The largest deployment continues to be concentrated in the Madrid fire and in the Burgohondo fire (Ávila)where the Military Emergency Unit (UME), firefighters, forestry agents, Civil Guard and troops arriving from different autonomous communities maintain work on the most sensitive fronts. In the Sierra Oeste of Madrid, the operation focuses a good part of its efforts on the surroundings of the San Juan reservoir, Valdemaqueda and the nearby urbanizations, while in Ávila the work continues to consolidate the wide perimeter of the fire and move towards a de-escalation that allows the progressive return of part of the evacuated population when there are safety guarantees. The fire that started in Almorox (Toledo) remains under close surveillance to avoid possible outbreaks.
On the other hand, the Castellón fire, declared in La Vall d’Uixó, continues to be active in the Sierra de Espadán with a large device of land and air resources concentrated in the sectors of Eslida, Betxí and Onda. While the extinction work continues, the Government has confirmed that the Council of Ministers will approve the declaration of the areas seriously affected by the fires and the administrations will begin the assessment of damage to activate aid for the recovery of the affected municipalities.
