Spain is under the effects of an episode of anomalous heat for the time, registering temperatures more typical of midsummeror that of the second decade of May. This situation has forced us to activate the first alerts of the year for heatboth in the north and in the south of the peninsula.
According to the prediction of the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET)collected by Servimedia, the yellow warning has been activated due to maximum temperatures that will reach 38 degrees in the Guadiana plains (Badajoz) and 34 degrees in the entire province of Vizcaya.
The thermometer was already warning strongly. This same week, 35 degrees were exceeded for the first time in the Jaén municipalities of Bailén (35.4 ºC) and Andújar (35.1 ºC), as well as at the Seville airport (35.3 ºC). However, the country’s general record so far this year is held by the Canary Islands, where on April 19 the Gran Canaria municipalities of La Aldea de San Nicolás and Arucas recorded 37.9 ºC and 35.9 ºC respectively.
A thermal rise that will touch 40 degrees
The thermometers will continue their climb notably in the Cantabrian Sea and more lightly in the rest of the territory. Cities such as Bilbao and Oviedo will experience a rise of up to nine degrees compared to the previous days, while in San Sebastián they will rise to eight and in Logroño, six.
The highest values will be concentrated in Badajoz with 38 ºC and Seville with 37 ºC. Large areas of the southwest quadrant, the depressions of the northeast and points of the Cantabrian Sea will register marks between 34 and 36 degrees, affecting capitals such as Cáceres, Córdoba, Jaén, Lleida, Toledo and Zaragoza. On the opposite side, the environment will be much milder in A Coruña (21 ºC), Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Melilla and Tarragona (23 ºC).
The hot atmosphere will rise a new notch for Friday, consolidating a general rise in which the maximum temperature of 30 ºC will be reached in almost the entire Peninsula, and once again hovering around 37-38 ºC in the Guadalquivir Valley, the Guadiana plains, the middle Ebro valley and also along the Tagus, on the southern plateau.
